Enjoyed this restaurant very much on a first go although it was loud. My second visit ended in anger. As my party finished our first course the plates were quickly swept away (perhaps they needed them) same treatment with the next course. And then our kind waiter dropped the check before asking if we wanted coffee (Italian restaurant?). He was gracious and reopened it when reminded of his duties. All this would have been passed over except as we were drinking our individual press-pot coffees the somolier came over and poured the last half into our cups for us and then took them away. Why (there were open tables)? Obliviously the whole team was geared up to process through clients and push them out. I won't return to be insulted.

I was very excited to come to Mia dona, but was very dissapointed. i never like to bash a restaurant, especially mia dona, with the great service they had. the waiter was very friendly and not to overbearing. the food however..... another story. i got the shellfish stew, and which claimed to be a saffron based sauce.... i received the dish and it was a measly watered down tomato broth. The calamari were over cooked and tough like rubber, and the mussles were clearly not fresh.... i was very dissapointed because the dish looked stunning. The side dish of polenta was very good however, it claimed to use smoked mozzarella.... there clearly was not smoked mozz, because you could have told if there was. will def not waste money going there again... but the waiter was nice haha

Mediocre lunch

Just went to Mia Dona today for lunch-- the service was extremely slow despite the restaurant being nearly empty. The chicken panini was supposedly served with a garlic aioli that I couldn't taste, and the panini bread was too thick and overwhelmed the one piece of chicken that was in there. Dessert was better, light & airy zeppole served with two dipping sauces. I'm not sure when this restaurant went downhill, I haven't been there in a while and this experience was MUCH different than previous dining experiences there.

OUR PARTY OF FOUR GOES TO UPSCALE FOODERIES ONCE A WEEK AND LAST WEEK WE WERE UNFORTUNABLE VERY DISAPPOINTED HERE. THE WAITSTAFF IS GREAT AND SOLICITOUS BUT THE FOOD, WAY, WAY, WAY TOO MUCH SALT AND THIS COMING FROM A GROUP WHO LOVES THE TASTE. SQUID WAS GOLD AND OVER DILLED AND EACH AND EVERY DISH THAT CAME OUT OF THE KITCHEN, NO MATER WHETHER IT WAS SALAD, STEAK, PASTA, SOUP, WAS SOOO OVER INDULGED IN SALT. WHOMEVER WAS CHECKING THE OUT GOING PLATES WAS THE CULPRIT BECAUSE DISHES WERENT SALTY VIZ A VIZ THE COOKING PROCESS. VERY LOUD, NO SOUND DEFENING BUT ALL IN ALL, WOULD TRY IT AGAIN.

More spices!

So we tried Mia Dona, and we had the crispy rabbit, the risotto, the maple panna cotta. Good. No complaints, but not much to write home about, either. Where were the spices? The crispy rabbit could have been fried chicken (fried skinny chicken); the risotto, while pretty, tasted like creamy rice and peas. Which is all that it was. Which was fine, but a little disappointing. The panna cotta was good, but nothing too special, and the maple in it was perhaps too subtle. But I like the space, and I like that its entrees are under $40. The chef just needs to be less cautious about using spices.

Delicious but loud

We had an 8:30 reservation on Saturday night, but got seated around 8:50, overall not too bad for a busy Sat. The restaurant was very loud, especially in the front section, so for a table of 4 it was hard to have a conversation amongst all of us. That is my only strong negative to Mia Dona. The food was good to very good. We started with the fried calamari and the antipasto platter. The calamari were well fried and tasty but nothing unusual. The antipasto, albeit simple, was delicious and well-executed. For dinner three of us had pasta dishes - although the small portions do look a little small on the plate, they are very filling and certainly sufficient dinner portions after having appetizers. The lamb pasta was okay but not outstanding. I would recommend the orecchiette with sausage and the butternut squash/chestnut pasta, and the hangar steak - delicious and tender.

We were encouraged to make a reservation on a Saturday night and the only options they gave us were 5:30 or 10, leading me to believe that it would be crazy packed. We were seated at 5:30 and by the time we left at 7, the restaurant was barely 1/4 full. The food was great and so was the service. Not mindblowingly so but definitely above average. Roasted garlic in the bread basket was a nice touch. The mixed grill was delicious. The wine list has a good selection. I'd like to see how it is a month or two from now, when they hit their stride.

Best Pasta!

I've still not tried Babbo's pasta, but I'm sure the pasta at Mia Dona provides some steep competition. I rarely visit restaurants more than once because there are so many good ones, but I've been there about 4 times and each time the pasta dishes blow me away. The gnudi, so soft and pillowy--perfectly executed!
