I expected a somewhat bright Greek feel and lively atmosphere, so I was a little surprised at the rather dark, somber tone. A friend and I went without reservations and were looked at askance by the hostess. We were finally seated somewhat grudgingly and were given a basket of pita wedges and dip, and then....nothing. After 20 minutes or so we asked if there was a waiter assigned to this table, and they looked flustered. Finally someone came and said there been a "misunderstanding." So things started off rather rocky.
But the Avgolemono soup was delicious, redolent of herbs with tender bits of chicken, and they cheerfully served it to share. My friend ordered lamb chops, which were luscious (though they-- wisely in my opinion,--served them medium rare rather than the well-done she requested) and my Greek version of risotto, with saffron, squid rings and shrimp was also yummy. That plus a single bottle of beer came to a nice round $90, but in the end, I decided it was money well spent.

The hostess and bartender were the only nice staff in the restaurant. The atmosphere is quite charming but our experience was ruined by the extremely rude server. The Cheese and hummus appetizers were delcious but that's about it. The prices are are fairly high and the menu does not feature many authentic dishes other than on appetizer menu

The Pan Roasted Sirloin Steak is cooked to perfection here, as well as their Veal and Lamb dishes. Ravani (ice Cream dish) or their Rice Pudding are top notch finishers. Sometimes it is overly busy with theater goers, but even then, the service is still good. Recommended, but not for the faint of wallet.

To be fair, I think one could come here and have a very good meal. Ours, however, was absolutely not. And at these prices, that's inexcusable.
Some things were quite good. Somethings were merely OK. But the Moussaka was one of the worst dishes I've ever paid to eat. (How did this get to be a "recommended dish"?) Instead of the layers of flavor and texture I've come to expect in a Moussaka, I was presented with a half-inch thick mess of greasy ground lamb and soggy eggplant covered with a single layer of cream sauce. It had been broiled within an inch of its life, and was inedibly hot when it first arrived.
Based on other reviews, this restaurant may well be worth checking out (maybe stick with the fresher grilled dishes?), but we're in no hurry after our experience.

This cavernous midtown Greek eatery is well suited for casual dining (with not so casual prices) for classical Aegean fare. Nothing frou frou about this place as the usual suspects dominate on their menu. Some may decry the expense account prices but great group dining experiences makes it easier to spread that bill across everyone's corporate card!

A bit of the Greek Isles in the middle of touristy, bustling Seventh Avenue.Very good food.Try the Sampling of Traditional Greek Spreads (10.75) Cabbage Dolmades 19.50 (,Braised Cabbage Filled with Ground Lamb & Beef; Lemon Dill Sauce,)Aglaia’s Moussaka 19.50
(Casserole Layers of Eggplant, Potato & Tomato; Spiced Ground Lamb & Yogurt Béchamel.)Service can be erratic,The food and drinks are overpriced.Worth a try!

Perhaps too High a Price to Pay for Greek Cuisine

This is almost the perfect Greek restaurant. The decor is perfect, the seating is properly spaced, the service is very good to excellent, somewhat unique for a typical Greek restaurant, and the menu and preparation are first class. First courses, main courses, the wine and the desserts are all outstanding in variety and execution. It is only when the bill arrives that there is a bad taste. Prices are too high due to proximity to Carnegie Hall and other theaters, and some like the hidden over priced bottle of Greek mineral water are just not what one expects at this type of a restaurant. So if you go, and I encourage you to go, just select carefully and ask what items not priced cost to avoid an unpleasant surprise.

Great after theatre, after concert
place for their "little bites" fare. Must try the flamming spreads. Greek salad is like a colorful garden vision, and delicious. Fun to mingle with the musical world.
