communal table with bad service

hit and miss on menu... not consistent quality food. definitely overpriced for what gets served, its like tapas for price of full meals. Was forced to sit at communal table and when complained was told i would have wait an extra 30 minutes after having waited 40!! dont waste your time , so many other better options in NYC

This place has been all the rage in the past couple years but was a huge disappointment. The different food elements that supposedly come from different cultures and inspirations do not compliment each other at all. The end result tastes like exotic ingredients were randomly thrown together. Reviews say David Chang can cook meat amazingly well, but any authenticChinese or Korean restaurant (try Chinatown or Korean Town) can produce as, if not more, delicious meat dishes, without adding in unnecessary components to detract from the meat itself. To top it off, Momofuku overcharges for very small portions. Completely overrated and not worth going to.
NY Mag ruined it for me

After hearing so much about the Ssam Bar (especially in MY Mag) I was looking forward to trying it. But the food was mediocre, expensive and not very innovative. We had short ribs drowned in a pot of thick gravy and the hanger steak ssam, cheaper and better in any number of less trendy korean restaurants. To top it off, there was a photo shoot going on while we were eating. The annoying strobe light effect of the constant flash bulbs did not help the ambiance, nor did the mouthy lighting assistant who pretended to ignore our complaints while she kept flashing away directly in front of us as we tried to eat our meal. Then, it turns out it was this very mag doing the shoot. (First you convince me to try a restaurant, then you ruin the already mediocre meal. Nicely done NY magazine - remind me to cancel my subscription. You guys are the worst.) Overrated. Overhyped. I'd rather go to korea-town and get the real deal. "Momofuku Ssam, the extra S is for Sucks".
what's the big fuss?

i've always loved to try new restaurants. there's nothing better than a great meal with great service, expensive or inexpensive. after hearing soo much about this place, especially ny mag, becuase i trust ny mag restaurant rating. But, 3 stars out of 5? and $-$$ out of 5?? these information got me extremly confused after trying out at momofuku ssam bar. waiters are extremly cold and not helpful what so ever. terrible music to go with the restaurant. i went with a couple of friends, we all tried the pre fix. i think the only nice dish was the buns. the rice cake?? way too oily and way too spicy to be dined alone. and the PB & J? was too much peanuts, therefore made the taste balance more salty than anything. i would NEVER go back there again, and i hate the fact ny mag rated this place 3 stars. NOT worth it. and the price?? for this kind of food? for this kind of service? never again. thanks.
