DO NOT EVER ORDER FROM HERE, YOU WILL BE HUNGRY ALL DAY
By rsorso on 5/10/2013
If you want to order from here, expect the food to come VERY LATE. They lie to you when you call asking if the order went out. For a former loyal customer, I am disgusted by this establishment. I was not treated with any respect as I called over and over to find out where my order was. NYers-Do you think waiting ONE HOUR FOR A DELVIERY IN MIDTOWN is acceptable? I cancelled my order because my lunch time was up, and then went hungry all day. The food isn't even that great, very pseudo- Vietnamese. If your time is precious, then STAY AWAY-BEWARE OF MOONCAKES!
Rude Waiters/ Scary delivery man
By Foodylicious on 11/11/2011
I agree with FoodieNYC123, the waiters are super rude not friendly at all I frequent MoonCake at least twice a week and place take-out as well. I understand this is not a Five Star Restaurant but a good service is unforgettable specially in a city full of good places to dine However it sucks because it's such a cool, affordable and delicious place. I have introduce this place to so many of my clients, co-worker, family members and out of town friends that never heard of the place and although they all enjoy the food all agree on the poor service... So MoonCake staff please just smile and be a little more nice to your clients, its really not that hard... P.S. there is one delivery guy that will scream at you if you give him less then $5 tips for just one order,,, scary guy.
NOT FRESHLY COOKED FOOD
By DAMILA on 6/10/2010
Just visited the Chelsea location. I was excited to try a sandwich and it was nice to see when you walk in the kitchen area where the food is prepared and the impression is that wow fresh food. BUT NO! I noticed that food was being prepared for customers and not one stove was on not one griddle going. They did however have a big closet type oven where all the food was being stored at 158 degrees and premade. EVERYTHING is premade nothing is fresh! I ordered the Grilled Pork Chops with Mango Chutney Sandwich, when I saw them pull out the way over cooked paper thin precooked pork chops that looks like wet dirty socks from the street I knew I was in trouble and chewing them was not going to be fun. As i was waiting i even notice that their soups are stored in plastic leftover containers in this closet and when somebody wants soup they just pour it out directly into a cup. Hopefully I dont get sick! they only take cash (gee I wonder why). Just another Asian place trying to be efficient with pumping and dumping poor quality food. I'm giving this place an awful rating as if they made / grilled food fresh it WOULD be excellent. My recomendation STAY AWAY!! UNTIL FRESH FOOD IS COOKED AND THE OVENS ARE ON.
Bang for your buck.

This little establishment really delivers. The miso-glazed salmon really is fantastic and at $8.95 it's one of the best-priced lunch options in SoHo to boot.
Worst Takeout Ever

The woman who took our order was so rude! And the food was not good. The chicken looked like pork, and then she defended it saying that it was really dark meat. Gross!!

The steak with cilantro sauce and white rice is my favorite.
Probably the best place for lunch in southwest SoHo

This neighborhood is pretty lacking in terms of great lunch places and delis, so Mooncake is a welcome destination for simple, delicious food that is very affordable. I love the Asian-inspired menu, and the steak sandwich is my standard. If you feel like splurging, the lobster sandwich is a delight.
Excellent value, unexpected flavors.

Even had beef shins? Me neither, until I ordered them on a lark at Mooncake. Now I order the beef shins sandwich all the time. That is when I'm not ordering the salmon plate or the steak salad. It is hard not to get into an ordering rut here because all the dishes are so good, I'm afraid I'll have regret that I'm missing out on the other dish when I order something new. This never hapens, though. I just keep adding more favorites to my list! Mooncake flavors are unexpected. There's a lot of fusion going on with the menu item; it works and it isn't forced. Even the beverages are delicious. The staff is very nice too -- even the delivery man!
Was I in NY?
By Ailuj on 3/15/2004
From the prices you wouldn't believe you're still in NY. The food is nice and light, even the desserts. Comfy funky homey decor. I went with 9 other friends- the staff was very accomidating, sat us easily, super-nice and helpful, friendly. I Will be back!
what more could you ask for?

I have been to Mooncake countless times- but it is just simply impossible to tire of the relaxed atmosphere and fresh, delicious food. The tender miso glazed salmon is out of this world, the sweet glaze perfectly complementing the buttery fish. The wonton soups are hearty, yet perfectly satisfying. The pork chop sandwich is a personal favorite, but, if you are anti-carbs, the steak salad will not disappoint! The service is knowledgeable and friendly and the owners are terrific. If you want great food at bargain prices, then Mooncake is the place to be.
