I dined here on 7/21/07 and the meal was superb. My husband and I had the Morimoto sashimi, surf and turf, and seafood toban yaki. I was pleasantly surprised by everything. The sashimi appetizer comes with a variety of sauces that enhance and add a twist to the flavor of the fish. The kobe in the surf & turf was seared to perfection and encrusted with spices. The highlight of the meal for me was the toban yaki, which was like a Japanese version of a bouillabaisse, with lobster, crab, clams, and mussel in a rich, decadent red miso soup. I highly recommend it, as an entree or share it with someone as an appetizer. The restaurant was beautiful, and the staff was knowledgeable and friendly.
best raw fish in the city
By theblackhole88 on 2/19/2008
Morimoto was great. Other than the fact that he was accually there cutting our fish. It is the BEST raw fish i have had in the city. If you like raw fish get the sashimi combo. The fish just melts with freshness, you dont even need to use your teeth :) The cooked foods are also great. take a good look at the appitizer menu. the decor has a certain ambiance of class and the bar downstairs and the bathroom continues the brilliant decor. Ive been there multiple times, and it is always the choice when i want freshness.

My date and I had cocktails and several small plates in the lounge on the lower level, and it was a wonderful, romantic evening. The service was amazing and helpful - each plate was gorgeous and completely delicious. The Beef Carpaccio and Oyster Foie Gras were outstanding. For dessert, the Caramel Cinnamon Chiboust was not only beautiful and delightful to taste, but such an unexpected and enjoyable combination of textures and flavors.

We had a wonderful experience, food was absolutely delicious, service was excellent, but dinner for two cost around $800.00.
Domo arigato, Mr. Morimoto!

Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior - Morimoto is beyond amazing! The food is stellar (best sushi I've had in a long time; the kappa rolls had the perfect amount of wasabi INSIDE them) - my guest had a near-orgasm when he tasted the 10-hour pork kakuni. The setting was very innovative and delightful, the service was warm and attentive, and we had a very nice view of the (open) kitchen from where we were seated. I would definitely recommend Morimoto and definitely plan on returning.
Sushi with a side of Milan
By Vittoria on 12/30/2009
After strolling through Chelsea Market, my sister and I were craving sushi and decided to head over to the infamous Morimoto's for lunch. Upon arriving we stared in awe at the decor from outside, and after stepping through the glass doors were immediately seated by the hostess. I had heard that the service at Morimoto's was awful. However, much to my surprise our waiter Milan, a dashing Frenchman, was charming, funny, and very knowledgeable about the menu items. We ordered mixed green salads and a $35 platter of the chef's choice of 10 pieces of sushi and 6 pieces of sashimi. All was very fresh and delicious. On another note, the bathroom was extraordinary. Very futuristic and modern, particularly the part my sister dubbed the "turbo toilet."
