I ordered "chicken with mixed vegetable" on a Saturday around 1PM. The restaurant was very busy, with only one empty table. The food was bland; the only flavor was that of soy sauce and sugar. The dish consisted of steamed chicken slices, broccoli, straw mushroom, carrot, water chestnut and a few snow peas. The broccoli was yellow in spots. The cost was actually $9.25. It is listed in the menu as $8.25, but they charge you a dollar extra for rice!!! This was my first time eating there, and I won't return.

I want to THANK the writer for posting that the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is still open. Some nitwit told me the place was busted for dealing drugs. Happy to know it was a lie.

Never had a bad dish here in 10 years of frequent visits, and I eat all over Chinatown. The scallion pancakes are sublime and the dumplings incredible, but the place is so busy that the food is fresh, fresh, fresh and has tons of taste. Great value for the money. I always thought the service was very good. Super nice to kids, if that is a consideration, though that is just an extra. I always thought the service was good--often better than the manners of the customers. Decor... You don't go there to look at the walls, but it is authentic!

Friend who grew up in Chinatown recommended this restaurant. Best soup dumplings..beats Joe's Shanghai hands down. Order the jalapeno chicken...superb. Yes it has peak hours of crowds but their service is excellent. I've been here over 20 times...it is the best. Go across the street after your meal to the Ice Cream Factory and try one of their many homemade flavored ice creams...exotic choices. All Good!

This place is definitely one of the cleaner places in Chinatown. It is very small and well known for soup dumplings. But everything else (especially the scallion pancakes) is really good too. Very crowded, so be prepared to wait during peak lunch and dinner times. They will often sit you at a table with randoms, like hibachi. Cash only.

the restaurant has its pros and cons. it's often very packed on friday and saturday nights. it can get VERY noisy and loud in there, especially when there's a huge group of people eating together. the service isn't that great, but i guess the food makes up for it. the food is relatively inexpensive and it's delicious. everything comes randomly, and you may have to share a table when there's no room. there's very little decor and the service is at times, terrible. they don't place things on the table and everything is hastily served, perhaps because it's almost always crowded on the weekends. it's very kid-friendly and i would recommend it, but if you're going for an intimate dinner for two, this would not be the place to go. the environment is very casual and laidback.
