I planned a celebration here for a close friend and was very disappointed to read, in two places on the menu, that the restaurant "Reserves the right" to ask for a maximum stay of two hours and a minimum purchase of $40 per person due to the size of the restaurant. It did not offer the welcoming feel I hoped to experience after what I'd read on this site and others about the restaurant.

My wife and I live two blocks away and come here for special occassions. Even my father, who is not the world's greatest fan of Italian cuisine, was blown away. Is the cash only part annoying? of course. But does mind blowing bucatini, meat perfectly done and some of the best and most personal service in the city outweigh it? yes indeed.

I do not write restaurant reviews. but my fiance and I are avid foodies and had the pleasure to eat at Nica this past weekend. This is hands down on the best meals I've had in NYC and to date. The food was second to none, the ambiance and service was beyond reproach as well. Anyone that loves Italian food should make this their first stop. It trumps Il Mulino as well as the more modern interpretations of Italian out there.

Makes me sad. They used to have Gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce that was a miracle. Pillows of light delicate ricotta and potato puffs of macaroni in a superb sauce; it is so unfortunate it is gone. But the menu is still one of the best on the UES, worthy of going to at least once. Try it, is an adventure.

The braised lamb is spectacular and it's one of my absolute favorites there. Another favorite is the artichoke appetizer. Nica is an adorable dish and certainly one to go ba.ck and visit. Everyone there makes you feel incredibly welcome. The tiny size makes you feel like you're at home.

I had such an excellent meal here. I tasted everything that my family ordered and it was just out of this world. I cant even comment on the decor because with food like this you don't even notice it. Plus the owner/chef/ entertainer adds to the experience. He even answers the phone to take ressies. The whole experience was just amazing!
