Nobu 57 was a luxurious choice for my wife and I to celebrate our 10th anniversary. Our first anniversary was a memorable meal at the original Nobu so it seemed only appropriate to visit the latest incarnation of the chef's vision. However, our appetite expired immediately upon entry. Nobu 57 lacks the charm, innovation and refinement of the original restuarant. The new restuarant is a bellicose riot of color, texture and...stuff. While we enjoyed playing "Eye Spy" - I spy shells, I spy bamboo, I spy river rock, etc. etc., the interior design overwhelms the senses. The scale is excessive, the lighting borders on creepy and the design is as loud and tasteless as a supper club in Des Moines. Overall, the food and service were merely adequate, but uninspired. However, it was mordantly expensive compared to other restuarants of this caliber. In short, what was supposed to be an intimate dinner became an assult on the senses, as well as the pocketbook. My advice to Nobu - go back to basics and remember, "less is more".

Expectations were perhaps too high. Nobu on 57th Street just off 5th Avenue had the Mid-towners in a frenzy awaiting the opening. While the decor has lived up to the expectations, and the food matched the downtown original, it is the service that has faltered. Too many newbies that knew less about the menu than the customers. Too many errors of omission and a few of commission. So the customer gets to enjoy both the lower bar area and the upper dinning areas, perhaps eventually get served and reconnect with favorites, but the delays, faults and stumbles ruin the overall expereince. Perhaps with time the service will improve - but will the whole concept survive?

I've gone to this new trendy spot in the heart of the city with a few of my business clients, hoping to have a great meal and service after a month waiting on the reservation list, well the meal was actually not bad, but the management is horrible and arrogant. Very stuck up people and me and my clients was not pleased at all, i would definitely not recommend this place if you want to have a nice place to take your business clients, what an embarassment for me and my company to show my clients what i assumed to be a great spot.

AFTER A DAY ON 5TH AVE, MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO SKIP THE VENTURE DOWN TO GOTHAM B&G IN ORDER TO GO BACK TO NOBU57. HAVING BEEN TO BOTH THE ORIG NOBU AND LAS VEGAS NOBU, WE WERE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE NEW NOBU. OUR TRIP WAS AWESOME. UPON ENTERING WE WERE GREEATED BY TWO GORGEOUS HOSTESSES. WE WERE PROMPTLY BROUGHT TO OUR TABLE AND ENJOYED THE NEXT 4 HOURS OF DINING PLEASURE. OUR SERVER WAS SPECTACULAR- WHILE COMPARING TIFFANY JEWELS WITH MY WIFE!!! I DID NOT WANT THIS NIGHT TO END. WHEN WE HAD FINISHED DINING, SHE EVEN SENT US TO A LOCAL HOT-SPOT ON 58TH BETWEEN 7-8TH. I WOULD AND WILL GO BACK AS OFTEN AS WE CAN. THE NEXT TIME WITH BE IN JAN, THEN FEB, THEN MARCH ETC...!!! KUDOS TO THE STAFF OF NOBU- ENJOY THE EXPERIENCE- AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE!!!

I liked Nobu back in the days.. Then, I went to Bar Masa. wow! really good. but, expensive. after discovering Morimoto. I am addicted to this Japanese fusion food. Morimoto's toro scallion roll is just as good as bar Masa, and it does not hurt your life savings either. You just have go to Morimoto and try it.

If a rude and condescending bartender who spends more time debating your order at the bar and hardly any time properly delivering it equates to your idea of a great time-go here! Nobu Miami, Nobu Dallas, Nobu downtown-get the big picture- that customer service and great culinary artistry are not contradictions. Sadly, Nobu Midtown has lost its luster, its will to serve and deliver on par with its brand standard, and clearly has not vetted its staff. A shame- because it used to be so good...save your time, your temper, and your energy and go to Megu, Koi, or Matsuri instead.
