Definitely worth the wait for a reservation and worth every penny. This food is THE BEST! I love sushi, but the food here is so extraordinary, that I rarely order sushi. Everything I have ever had on the menu is excellent!

Their signature dish of black cod with miso is delicious. Try the sashimi salad.

Each visit is a new adventure. There is no better Japanese in New York. Whether you go ala carte or take the Omakase dinner route, you will not be dissappointed. The Omakase dinner gives you a better idea of the chef's creativity. Quite a pricey meal, but well worth it. The toughest part of this dining experience is the reservation and confirmation routine. It never gets easier. I suppose that is a compliment to the restaurant.

Has NOBU lost his touch?

I haden't been to NOBU in ages and was really excited to be going again, irrespective of the rude servers with an attitude who give the place such character. I have 2 words to decribe my experience: Cheesecake Factory. Don't get me wrong, I love the fast turn around and the commercialized, unsophisticated, standard fare at Cheesecake Factory. But, at over $100 a person you expect more from NOBU. Gone are the special, delicate and unique tastes that began a culinary revolution. Nobu has lost his touch but gained a commercial empire where brand, and bland, are the rules of the game.

One of Manhattan's Best

Once you land the reservation, it's a fantastic experience. Seafood lovers will be thrilled with the menu; on the contrary, if you do not eat seafood, choices are quite limited. Don't go for the sushi - nothing terribly special about it - rather, go for the creative and consistently delicious dishes. Try the black cod with miso, tuna tataki, and spicy creamy rock shrimp tempura. I didn't personally care for the squid pasta (interesting but relatively bland). Portions are rather small but are intended to be shared. Expect on paying around $10-20 per dish and averaging 2-3 dishes per person (unless you order a lot of sushi as well). Take a look at the drink menu as well - mixed drinks are fantastic and run around $10 each.

Hollywood meets Japan

I crave Nobu's black cod with miso, his hot pepper sauce, his delicate yet zesty, original dishes even now that they're almost unaffordable. Nobu is enormous with chopstick legs on the stools, a rock wall, his special dishes, etc. I prefer the smaller, original Matsuhisa in LA, but if you can afford Nobu, you should certainly start way ahead to make a reservation and have the experience. My son and I shared an omikase special one night ($75 each without drinks) and were ready to go for a burger afterwards as portions were miniscule. The food is fabulous. If you're not familiar with it, don't be ashamed to ask for explanations and recommendations. Just bring lots of plastic. The prepared dishes are his specialty though his sushi is also special, but don't limit yourself to the familiar as you'll waste the opportunity to see what Nobu is about. If you can get them to make you the kelp with seaweed, order it. They also have a notable selection of sushi, but I'm a beer drinker, so can't talk about that. And, yes, you're likely to see celebrities, perhaps in the back behind the curtain.

its not about the sushi. sure the sushi's 30% better than your average place, but its still sushi. its about everything else--the miso cod and the fusion dishes--which aren't like anything at any other restaurant. the miso cod that has popped up on other japanese menus, such as ruby foo's, shouldn't even be allowed to be called miso cod.

Creativity and quality are both Nobu's trademarks. You can't go to Nobu just for sushi, you go to try a variety of dishes. The entire dining experience is a treat.

Say Omikase - you will not be disappointed. The tempura pumpkin and trio de pots creme (Ginger, Green Tea, Espresso) were delish! The best! Not to be missed.

The work that you have to put in just to secure a reservation tells you that you're in for one helluva meal. This was my first time and I left it up to my waiter to assist w/my order. He assured me that I would not be disappointed w/their most popular dish, so I went w/it. To this day, I've never been served a better dish than Nobu's Black Cod w/Misu...
