I LOVE Nooch. I've been there more times than I can count. I've always had a great time. I've gone with friends; I've gone with a date, and each time I go, it's a great experience. The martinis are incredible. The food is better than I first expected. The menu is reasonably priced, so if you don't like the restaurant, you won't feel like you spent a large amount of money on a lack-luster experience. My recommendations: Noochi Martini, Bangkok Drumsticks (chicken wrapped over a sugarcane skewer), and Pad See Oui Gai (fried chicken noodles)

I found the first thing to turn me off was the hot green tea I ordered. It was served in a paper cup with a tea bag. For $4 dollars, I think that I could have done as good a job with tea. Ah well, I thought. It's just tea. I ordered a nice bowl of noodles, with great anticipation only to be deflated. Out of the box limp, flavorless noodles, whose blandness was only matched by the the broth. Honestly, if a place that calls itself a noodle bar has to resort to using pre-fab noodles out of a plastic bag from the freezer, then what good is it, I ask you. The decor was about the only saving grace. As for the service. I went with 3 friends on a non-busy day. I felt like the waiter was doing us a favor just for strolling by at some point with the menus. Overall, a very lackluster experience. If hip pan asian food is what you are after, Republic not only has the decor, but also delivers on the food as well. Nooch. No thanks. And thanks for the cheap green tea in a paper cup.

YOU LOOK FABULOUS WITH A $7 MARTINI

The dust has settled and Nooch has settled into the nabe. It's not where you go on a special date; it's where you go on your way home from shopping at Barney's Warehouse. Seven dollar martinis in a nabe where twelve dollars buys you a thimbleful of vodka. At Nooch, it's Thai or Japanese, depending on which side of the menu you choose. The vegetable dumplings are fresh and hot. Soba noodles are no rival for Honmura-An, but much less expensive. Japanese salad is crisp and clean. The service is...well-intentioned. Best of all, the bathroom is a true sycophant -- flattering you constantly as you doodle with your noodle: YOU LOOK FABULOUS runs the ticker tape along the mirror, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? You leave with a smile. It's not brilliant, but it works.

Everything on the menu is under $10, It's mostly noodles with a few Japanese items. I had thai noodles in broth, very good, with a good assorment of ingredients, two large shrimps, served in a large bowl, ample portion.

The broth of my lemongrass based seafood noodle soup was excellent - usually the thing that tends to be weak in many noodle places. But the seafood was not particularly fresh, and my water glass smelled stongly of mildew. Not real confidence builders for whats going on cleanliness-wise backstage. Cool decor- if you want to see it go for a martini.

If you're in a hurry and want a quick bite, this is a place to go. The food is great, however, service SUCKS. Also, be prepared to eat your food before the person you are dining with gets theirs. Food comes out sporadically - WHEN it actually comes out. The waiters always seem confused and manage to screw up a lot of things. I gave this place three tries - each time something majorly wrong happened. The second time I ate there - after only being at the table for 30 minutes (meal was done), I was asked to finish my drink at the bar so that they could seat others who were waiting. People don't expect this sort of behavior when going out for a relaxed dinner on a Saturday evening. I was APPALLED.
