Bad Service, Bad Coffee

The first pot of coffee was cold. The second was tepid and bitter. So, I switched to cappuccino and to my surprise it was bad too. We were a party of three seated at a table for two. The waiter was so rude, that it was more like a comedy sketch than a real experience. My wife ordered plain oatmeal, but they decided to add milk and sugar. The food really seems quite good, but a $100 breakfast for three should have great coffee and great service just to be in the game.

Norma's is a glorified diner. However, we were appalled by the amount of wasted food we saw during our 2 hour sitting- every plate had at least 1/3 to even 2/3 of the food leftover because of the enormous portion they serve, yet none of the wait staff informed their customer of such. They may have to justify a $22 omelette (which we shared and still had some leftover) but Norma is making money by asking its customers to pay for unwanted food.

I went to Norma's after hearing all of the hype about their brunch. From beginning to end, I was disappointed. The service was terrible. My friend had to send her food back because it was so over salted, and after 30 minutes of waiting and speaking with a manager, her food finally arrived. I try new brunch places every weekend, and this was truly one of the worst experiences i've had in a while.

I'm a Tennessee girl, and I was told, "Brunch is a religion here. We don't go to church on Sunday mornings - We go to brunch." I had a reservation for one at 8:45 AM, and was seated promptly. I was quickly greeted with the offer of coffee and OJ . The OJ cost $7.... OJ is much cheaper in Tennessee... Then I read through the menu options. I had a very looooong time to read... I could have memorized the menu in the time allotted.... Finally!!! A waiter stopped and asked me if I was ready to order! Since he was obviously in a huge hurry caring for more important customers than me, I quickly replied that I wanted the Cheesy French Toast, and he scampered away..... The food was incredible! Two thick slices of bread grilled to perfection, with gobs of melted cheese oozing out. It was exquisite - Cheese heaven. However, it was probably TOO much cheese... The fingerling potatoes were yummy dipped in the cheese. The bacon was nothing special - Flabby for my taste. My waiter never returned after delivering the food except to deliver the check...

The wait was roughly 40 minutes to be seated. Groups of two are squeezed into a ridiculously tight space in the middle of the restaurant. The tables for four appear to be much better. We were seated for an hour before we received our food. My wife's blueberry pancakes were good. My crabcakes were good. The side of bacon we split was excellent. We had to get up from our table to get a refill on our water and her orange juice. My coffee was very good (and a pot of freshly pressed coffee was left on the table). We only spoke with our waiter twice...to take our order and when he dropped off the bill. I'd expect this type of experience at a hole in the wall where we could both eat breakfast for $30. This ain't it....

my husband and i were in the city for a week and came here twice. both experiences were excellent. we made reservations and had no issues. the food is simply amazing - each dish is enough for two people and the menu is so diverse! if it was cheaper, i would have gone more often.

I ask, what is the point of a reservation if you still will not be seated for over an hour and a half? We took the time to make sure our reservation was in place days before our date, but still the management and host did nothing to accommodate us when we arrived and had been waiting. When we complained, they just gave us a list of excuses and even said "we don't take reservations." Definitely, not a place to waste your time!

I have never been treated so poorly by a restaurant's management. My party reserved a table over a week in advance, and we arrived only to be told that Norma's does not take reservations. My fellow executives and I waited for over an hour before we determined it was a waste of our time, and promptly left.

Norma's does one thing and one thing well. It makes outstanding Breakfast/Brunch. Go for some outrageous food, which makes everyone smile and lick their lips. You’ll be seated side by side with European tourists, Manhattan silver hairs, and trending guests of the Parker Meridien hotel all feeding themselves to wonderful comfort food. Who would ever considered making reservations for a table for breakfast. It's that good.
