Food was phenomenal, lets start there. However, I've never been treated quite as much like a second class citizen in my life. The staff was largely rude and impatient. On numerous occasions the waiter stopped halfway through addressing our table to go wait on another table where he clearly assumed there would be a larger tip. I wouldn't waste my time at the Old Homestead NYC again. There are too many phenomenal steakhouses in NYC to be frustrated by such an experience. Unless you are a regular at this restaurant, go to Peter Luger's, Del Monico's, etc. Much, much better comprehensive dining experience.

I had the Burger Diamonds for Lunch which included a Caesar Salad, Tater Tots, glass of Chardonnay and three great burgers (Kobe, Filet Mignon & Sirloin) each with a different gourmet topping. It really was delicious! I was in NY on business and ate alone. The waitstaff was professional, nice and extremely courteous. This is my new favorite place for lunch!! The decor was beautiful. It is an old building in a revived area and furnished very nicely. Try it. It is great!

I hadn't been here in over 15 years. I made same-day reservations online with no problem (and this was a Saturday night)...take that as you will. The decor has definitely changed. Spruced up. But I thought it was kind of a shame. It used to be you'd walk in the door and feel like you were in the oldest, best steakhouse in NYC...leather wingbacks in the lounge with standing ashtrays, deep burnished wood, and the smell of steak everywhere. Now that it's been modernized...meh. The ribeye was excellent, the porterhouse was just ok (broccoli and garlic mashed were fine). I also enjoyed my bleu cheese/iceberg wedge. Waitstaff was fine, we had a nice leisurely meal. I've been to a dozen steakhouses in the city, all of the classics and several of the newbs: if you want an NYC steak experience, Old Homestead, sadly, is no longer the place to go. Keen's, Luger's, and the newer Wolfgang's all deliver a better experience for the money you'll spend. You can see by my ratings that I didn't think it was *bad*...just not among the best anymore. The only distinctive quality that remains is the cow above the door.

I saw the NY Post article Sunday morning, and had to give the new Kobe burger lunch a try - and absolutely loved it! I can't believe it was only $19 for the burger, sides, AND wine. It came with these really great tator tots (so much better tasting than what I'm used to from Mr. Subb), a Caesar salad, and I picked the Cabernet. I had'nt been to the Old Homestead in 20 years. A visiting friend wanted to go there. The steak was overcooked and not very good. The costs were ridiculously overpriced. I would never go there again. I would suggest that there are places with much better food at half the cost. The Porterhouse for 2 that I specifically asked not be burnt, was exactly that, burnt on the outside, essentially ruining a steak dinner that I had been hoping would be great. The inside was beat red as well. Not worth the money by a long shot. The seating was crowded and we were abutting another table that casued me to get bumped continuously and practically have the other diner's arm in my ribs while eating!!

Thought we would try Old Honestead after all these years, and what a BIG disappointment. The service was subpar as well as the food. A real shocker was the guests...all tourist and getting ripped off for food that has been "pre prepared." I asked for spinach to be steamed not creamed and was told all the food has already been prepared early in the day.....SHOCK! I am used to STK, Craft, Strip steak houses where you get food prepared for you. All the food had heavy cream sauces or grilled in butter...UGG. what a waste of money. Plus, I got sick during the night from the tuna appetizer.

My latest visit to Old Homestead came very close to being a disaster. While walk-ins were being accommodated, we had to wait for a table even though we had reservations. We were seated 15 minutes late. Then we waited another 15 minutes for a waiter to show up at the table so we could order drinks. It took 45 minutes from the time we placed our order until our salads arrived!!! The prime rib showed up another 45 minutes later. When a maitre d' finally came by to ask if everything was okay, I told him about our experience and he offered free dessert which we declined so he offered to take the first round of drinks off the bill. It was never removed and we had to wait another 15 minutes for them to find him. We were never brought a basket of bread nor a wine list. The two stars are for the food which was delicious. The rest of the experience was a disaster. What a way to spend Valentine's Day.

Food is not that good, wait staff is friendly but messed up orders (including from other tables). Decor looks worn out. Restaurant is loud. Bill for dinner for two with one drink each and no desert was over $200. Outback Steakhouse is better than this place. Stay away!

I called and made a reservation for a birthday celebration dinner, and requested the customary candle, etc., for the birthday girl, who chose this particular restaurant for dinner. The hostess was lovely on the phone and understood this was a celebration and assured me all would be taken care of. We arrived, and were assailed by the smell of fumes. It seems they had had the floors redone, but felt it was okay to stay open for business. There was nowhere to sit to escape the smell, which caused one person a headache and another a queasy stomach. Needless to say, we did not dine in that atmosphere, and left. I don't know why they couldn't let us know this when I called, or why they felt it was okay to subject their valued customers to this.
