When you charge $18 for a vegetarian pasta dish, you shouldn't use 1. use canned mushrooms, 2. deny they are canned when asked. I cook, I know what a porcini mushroom looks like. Il Punto is a fine-enough space for a meal, but the food itself was largely uninspired. For prices like this I expect better, even in the culinary desert that is Hell's Kitchen. Don't waste your time here, go get some Thai food nearby.

The single worst dining experience I've had in New York. After waiting 45 minutes to order, our table of four hungry diners got up and left. You are a fool if you spend your money here.

Love this place. The food is great. I came here for dinner with my boyfriend and friends and we had amazing antipasties and awesome pasta. The tiramisu was simply unreal. Love the decor as well. Casual but elegant and the people are very friendly. I can make it my after work drink and dinner spot easy...the wine was so good. I highly recommand this spot.

The name changed from Osteria Gelsi to IL Punto. New chef, new staff and awesome italian home made food. Love the fact they making the pasta itself in house. Same for the dessert and bread. Warm, fresh and with care. I like that. The new menu is very interesting. Now it doesn't just serve puglian food but multiple italian regions traditional food. Feels like home to me. The new chef and owner i met was pretty cool and very italian. that's part of the dinning experience. it's a cultural trip to italy right on 38th st. And my favorite is when the stuff brings your plate as if it's a party. Love it. I was very excited to get my order :) and the "timbalo" was was delicious. The veal was very good the other time I had it and the wine i had was simply beautiful. I have to try more things and see what other things the menu i'd like. It's my escape to italy for this summer.

Good food, but their prices are higher than shown on their website

The food was good. The service was just OK. We asked for our pasta to be served after our appetizers. Instead, they brought it at the same time as our appetizers. Be aware that their prices are higher than shown on Menupages and their own website.

went to the restaurant in early may. the food was very good. however my friend and i felt uncomfortable. why you ask? because throughout our dining experience, although the two waitresses were very attentive to us, we found that the chef and manager were even more attentive to them. as we were seated next to the bar, we had a front row seat to the touchy feely sessions between the two couples. the funny thing is, neither one of us said anything about it during dinner, but laughed when we left because we realized we were both thinking the same thing - "the staff needed their privacy!"

Bizarre experience in a charming restaurant. A business companion and I each ordered salads and a different pastas. My friend was 1/2 way finished with the pasta, when she saw a coin in the bottom of the bowl. The waiter brought out the chef/owner, who told us that it did not happen in the kitchen. He told us that the only way it got in the bowl is if we put it there. Why would we do such a thing? No one came near us again. We paid the check and left. Horrible incident that spoiled what promised to be a fun get-together. There are too many other restaurants in NYC to put up with treatment like this.

Terriffic new italian restaurant on the edge of the theatre district

The service at this fabulous, moderatley priced Italian restaurant far surpassed its price range. Before my friends could even mention to the staff that it was my birthday, before we ordered dessert, they must have overheard or observed my opening of a package, because they brought out a round of sparkling wine and dessert, and it was on the house to boot. The chef came out and chatted with us, and we left that evening floating on a cloud of good food, excellent wine, and the glow of having been treated like queens, without having to pay a king's ransom.
