Osteria Morini is AMAZING

Quite frankly, this is food you want to make out with. Osteria Morini is a rustic tratorria that serves up all of the food you imagine an Italian family enjoys while the sun dips behind their vineyard: beautifully cured meats, hunks of mouthwatering cheeses, raw vegetables plucked straight from the market and served with a pepper-infused olive oil for dipping, ribbons of tantalizing tagliatelle, pillowy gnocchi and the most beautiful ragu you've ever tasted. And the service just adds to the experience. Chef White was all around the restaurant, greeting customers, pouring wine and ensuring we all had the most fantastic experience. He even gave my friends and me an additional pasta dish because he wanted us to experience more of his food! Run, don't walk, to Osteria Morini.

So we were a party of 4 and we had the FRITTO BOLOGNESE and POLPETTINE to share and for dinner we had CAPPELLETTI x 2, MEZZELUNE and the SALSICCIA polenta. We had an additional plate, the TAGLIATELLE, from which we all shared from. All dishes were great! The pasta dishes were the best and I can't wait to return and have them again. Great place! Oh, and I loved the music... mostly 80's and 90's.

Food delicious, service horrible

Service was terrible. When I asked for help choosing a bottle of red and asked for Montepulciano, a $90 bottle was suggested (3 20-something ladies out for Sunday dinner were not going to choose a bottle in that price range on that occasion). After finding one that was $45/bottle, I was informed that the restaurant was "out of bottles of red at that price point". Not only did that remark make me feel badly, being "out" of bottles of red wine at a value price point seemed like very poor planning on Morini's part. After we had settled on getting wines by the glass, it took our waitress 15-20 minutes to come around with each round of drinks. To top it off, we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert - we were just presented with the check!

We had a truly annoying experience at OM. Crammed into a communal table without even an inch to spare between us and other diners, we were forced to literally shout at one another all night. The noise level was unbelievable, and not helped by the soundtrack of 80's pop. While the food was most often delicious (polpettine, tagliatelle with ragu and branzino were the standouts), it wasn't enough to make us want to come back. The waiter was overwhelmed, service was therefore crappy and for the amount of money we paid, we didn't have a good enough time. Sorry, but there's equally good Italian fare to have in other places, without the general obnoxious vibe of this overrated restaurant.

Unlike the other reviewers, the only thing we enjoyed in this restaurant WAS the service! The food was mediocre to rank. We decided to skip the pasta as the tables (that were too close to us on either side) had couples that were complaining that the pasta was gummy and just not good. We decided to their pate and share a polenta...have to say, these were both delicious and good (but nothing you couldn't find in a million other Italian restaurants at a cheaper price)...from here our meal went downwards. Our main courses were extremely over salted, over cooked and just bad. We made the mistake of ordering dessert - please, if nothing else, take my advice and just skip this course here! In agreement with others, this place is over-hyped, overly loud, and just not good.

Flavorful Food, Great Service

Don't know what the complaints about service are, my experience was excellent. Bartender was friendly, offered big pours. Waiter was attentive and efficient, food came out promptly. Overall really enjoyed the food, had the veal, lasagna, two other pastas and apps, were all satisfying and good portions. Only meh was dessert but that doesn't disappoint me too much. Espresso was unusually good and wine selection fine. It is a busy place but I found it boisterous in a good way - nice energy for a celebration. If you want an intimate dinner with quiet conversation go elsewhere but I thought the vibe was great.

I love this place! Pastas are amazing. I'm obsessed with the Porchetta. Managers always smile and say hi. Servers and bartenders know their stuff. I don't mind that it's crowded and loud because it's popular, who wants to eat in a morgue anyway?

I really enjoyed my meal here and thought the service at both the bar and our table was quite good. I also enjoy a more loud, fun restaurant with lots of energy, so the atmosphere was right on for me. We ordered a quail skewer special, the pasta with sausage, and the porchetta and we left absolutely nothing on our plates. The sausage pasta was actually very light, which was a pleasant surprise for a potentially heavy dish. Overall, a realy enjoyable dinner.

What a restaurant SHOULD be

The only thing I like more than a restaurant with good food is a restaurant with good service. The whole experience was just that much better because the host and hostess duo were friendly, and our waiter and bus-boy were helpful and kind. OSTERIA MORINI is the kind of place that reminds you expensive, delicious restaurants in New York don't have to be stuffy. The vibe inside is swanky with a touch of romantic, without being overly pretentious by any means. Now to the food-- Ok, portions are small. Very small. But the pastas and entrees (and the specials) cannot be beat. Truly a delicious find with that neighborhood feel to it, though you're right in the heart of trendy soho. Your stomach will not leave disappointed, I promise.
