We had lunch at this cute little place on a Saturday just after its opening time. First, the food was outstanding--had an excellent, huge bowl of udon, and my wife had a really great carrot ginger soup and some dumplings. The waitress was so sweet and accommodating; she even brought a small extra bowl and spoon, without being asked, in case I wanted to taste my wife's soup. Maybe the person who commented that the service was terrible had a different waitperson, but our waitress was one of the most attentive, nicest waitresses we've ever had. Next time I'm in NYC, I'll go back to this place; it was wonderful, and I'd love to try some of the other dishes.

I went to Ozu last week with my mother. We are both picky vegetarians and like simple, healthy food. Ozu was great from start to finish. The service was friendly and attentive, the decor is minimal, small tables, soft lighting...The food was fresh, the tofu tasted like real tofu! The soba was excellent. I can't recommend this place enough if you want a nice place with no pretenses!

First time I went to Ozu, I was so surprised that I was able to have such a tasty vegitarian food even though I'm not vegitarian. Against my espectation of vegitarian food like not much tasty and too healthy, they are absolutely different. Ozu has fried noodle, rice and dumplings (They are all yammy and my favorite!!!) as well as typical vegitarian food. Of course they use the special oil and seasoning, though. Price is not super expensive in spite of its location. Also, I've been told they just started the special menu which will change one a month. It makes me to decide to go back often, definitely. Why don' you try Ozu? You will be able to enjoy it although you are not vegitarian and do somthing good for your own health .

If you are looking to change your diet, then this is the restaurant to do it for you. There is lots of variety and macrobiotics is great for your health. That said, the service here is truly poor a high percentage of the time. The service is so bad, in fact, that it appears to be intentional. Imagine a waitress walking by and you say "excuse me" on three passes and she ignores you each time, even as the table next to you, which arrived later, is served. Imagine a waitress refusing to read you the specials on the blackboard when you phone in an order--at first, by denying that there are any specials, until she is caught in her lie. Imagine a waitress telling you that she has other priorities right now, such as processing a credit card, and you will just have to wait. Imagine a waitress getting into an argument with you to insist upon barley tea being the most popular tea in Japan when all you are trying to do is request some green tea. Imagine a waitress refusing to apologize when getting an order wrong. I have had all these experiences here.
