Good Food, Extremely Poor Service
By jaeger on 4/29/2013
This is a review for having a larger party (12+ people) meal at Pampano. || THE GOOD: 1) Food and drinks were nice 2) They brought a dessert for the person whose birthday it was. || THE NOT SO GOOD: 1) I appreciate they accommodated our group, but if you have a choice, NEVER BOOK THE "SEMI PRIVATE ROOM." Dark, drab decor, worst table in the house. Disappointing given the nice sunlit main dining area. 2) Food portions are small, just be aware. || THE EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTINGLY BAD: 1) THE **SERVICE** THE **SERVICE** THE **SERVICE** 2) No attention given to our table (table was on 1st floor while main dining area on 2nd floor), waitstaff never checked on us, had to run out to the entrance of the restaurant multiple times to get the hostess to find people to help us, 3) LONG waits for all drink and food orders, multiple mistakes on the food despite having emailed our selections to the manager the day before as the restaurant requested for our group, waitstaff tried to blame the customer for their mistakes. || I as the organizer of the meal is embarrassed by all the bad service despite having coordinated in advance with their manager, the person who suggested that we go here is embarrassed she made this suggestion. We brought $800+ (before tip) of business, and the level of service we received was shameful. I will not be sending any further groups or clients here. Ever.
Excellent Food and Outdoor Seating

Great restaurant with beaatiful food. I ordered the tasting menu when I was there to try out everything that they had and not one dish dissappointed. The service was a bit slow as we had to get the waitor's attention just to give us menus but the outside seating is perfect in the summer
A Go To Place
By brittanycarcova on 8/16/2010
Whenever I have family from out of town or friends need a recommendation, Pampano is a go to. The atmosphere is a delight and the fresh-airy interior reckons a Spanish seaside resort. The food is delicious and fresh and indeed the Red Snapper Quesadilla is everything it is hyped to be... heaven and cheese. Some dishes however are better then others. The salad is always wonderful with grilled cheeses and seeds garnished atop. For main entrees the Chilean Sea Bass and the Tuna are both superb, but the Paella falls short. Drinks are mixed well and overall the place is just right.
What a Find!

Do not get to the city very often but when I do I rely on this site to lead me in the right direction. What a find! It was a homerun in my mind. The lobster tacos...WOW!.... The Quacamole....WOW!......I tried the Chef's 5 course Selection......Small portions but a great tasting. I am so happy I found this review....HIGHLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO TAKE THE TIME AND VISIT!

Mexican seafood? In a city full of Rosa Mexicanos and Chipotles (and this far from San Francisco), the concept seemed a bit dubious. Well, I was wrong: this is a lovely restaurant. Spacious (for NYC) and warm, with well-seasoned and fresh food. The stuffed tamale was wonderful, and I will definitely go back for the warm corn cake with coconut ice cream.
Sublime dining experience

I love this restaurant. Our dinner was wonderfully light, flavorful, beautifully served, and just plain civilized. From the greeting downstairs, to the courtly and friendly waiter...all was just wonderful. The guacomole was the best. The triple seviche wonderful, the fish soup lively with flavor and crunch, and the scallops were sweet and prepared perfectly. I've eaten here about four times....and every meal is a treat. I would love to move through the menu....item by item....What a treat.
Will NEVER return

went there sat night for a "light dinner" asked for shrimp to be added into my salad, and the waitress (who was barely available, we saw her three times the entire night) was very accomadating, but she failed to mention that instead of my $11 salad, i would be charged for a full entree. when the bill arrived i questioned it, the manager came over with the most condescending attitude and told me that their "expensive shrimp" were worth the $4 each, esp since the chef had to go through the extra trouble of making the salad to my specifications. i am sorry, but adding 4 shrimp to a salad you have, and when you have the shrimp for other dishes is ridic. i was told it was similar to another entree, which it was not since the accoutrements were of better quality. he argues with me and spoke to me as if i had never been out to dinner before. I will never go back. the food was tasty but incredibly overpriced, and there are just too many good restaurants without thie "Pampano Pompous" attitude...

Without any comparions, simply the most original, flavorfull and tasteful restuarant in NYC. The coastal Latin cuisne is light and packed with amazing texture and contarsting flavors. I started with the Hybiscus Margarita which was pure heaven. My wife and I shared the cerviche which was amazing then the Pescado Azteca with Huitlacoche it6 had an incredible earthy flavor and finished with the chocoflan not big enough for me but everybight was incredilble, the service was incredibly freindly and the terrace was beuatiful, it was exoensive compared to most Mexican restaurants but what you get is miles above. Cant wait to try Maya next.
Light Lunch - Great Meeting Spot!
By lacatarina on 5/31/2005
I don’t usually recommend places for lunch, but I had a nice experience at Pampano last week. We were sat at the terrace, with such beautiful weather it was just perfect. We had a ceviche sampler, which was a really nice choice for the beginning of the summer, then I had the seafood salad, and my colleague had a steamed fish with vegetables, they were both good choices to keep the diet low in fat. Service was very friendly, I had to ask for an aspirin and they were very helpful. It is an excellent place for lunch meetings, this was my first time there, but I will be going many more.
A great discovery in the neigborhood !

I have lived in the neighborhood for a while and have seen this spot open and close its doors before, so it took me a while before I got myself to try this Mexican place. I am terribly sorry I waited so long!! I've been missing out on one of the best Mexican restaurants in town if not the best. The atmosphere is wonderful, the downstairs bar always with a buzz, and the upstairs dinning room a perfect place to enjoy the wonderful food. Mainly seafood, this restaurant is a showcase of what modern mexican food really is.Go on a date, a business meeting or to celabrate an important occasion, you won't regret it. Service is friendly and accomodating.
