Mexican seafood? In a city full of Rosa Mexicanos and Chipotles (and this far from San Francisco), the concept seemed a bit dubious. Well, I was wrong: this is a lovely restaurant. Spacious (for NYC) and warm, with well-seasoned and fresh food. The stuffed tamale was wonderful, and I will definitely go back for the warm corn cake with coconut ice cream.

I love this restaurant. Our dinner was wonderfully light, flavorful, beautifully served, and just plain civilized. From the greeting downstairs, to the courtly and friendly waiter...all was just wonderful. The guacomole was the best. The triple seviche wonderful, the fish soup lively with flavor and crunch, and the scallops were sweet and prepared perfectly. I've eaten here about four times....and every meal is a treat. I would love to move through the menu....item by item....What a treat.

went there sat night for a "light dinner" asked for shrimp to be added into my salad, and the waitress (who was barely available, we saw her three times the entire night) was very accomadating, but she failed to mention that instead of my $11 salad, i would be charged for a full entree. when the bill arrived i questioned it, the manager came over with the most condescending attitude and told me that their "expensive shrimp" were worth the $4 each, esp since the chef had to go through the extra trouble of making the salad to my specifications. i am sorry, but adding 4 shrimp to a salad you have, and when you have the shrimp for other dishes is ridic. i was told it was similar to another entree, which it was not since the accoutrements were of better quality. he argues with me and spoke to me as if i had never been out to dinner before. I will never go back. the food was tasty but incredibly overpriced, and there are just too many good restaurants without thie "Pampano Pompous" attitude...

Without any comparions, simply the most original, flavorfull and tasteful restuarant in NYC. The coastal Latin cuisne is light and packed with amazing texture and contarsting flavors. I started with the Hybiscus Margarita which was pure heaven. My wife and I shared the cerviche which was amazing then the Pescado Azteca with Huitlacoche it6 had an incredible earthy flavor and finished with the chocoflan not big enough for me but everybight was incredilble, the service was incredibly freindly and the terrace was beuatiful, it was exoensive compared to most Mexican restaurants but what you get is miles above. Cant wait to try Maya next.

I don’t usually recommend places for lunch, but I had a nice experience at Pampano last week. We were sat at the terrace, with such beautiful weather it was just perfect. We had a ceviche sampler, which was a really nice choice for the beginning of the summer, then I had the seafood salad, and my colleague had a steamed fish with vegetables, they were both good choices to keep the diet low in fat. Service was very friendly, I had to ask for an aspirin and they were very helpful. It is an excellent place for lunch meetings, this was my first time there, but I will be going many more.

I have lived in the neighborhood for a while and have seen this spot open and close its doors before, so it took me a while before I got myself to try this Mexican place. I am terribly sorry I waited so long!! I've been missing out on one of the best Mexican restaurants in town if not the best. The atmosphere is wonderful, the downstairs bar always with a buzz, and the upstairs dinning room a perfect place to enjoy the wonderful food. Mainly seafood, this restaurant is a showcase of what modern mexican food really is.Go on a date, a business meeting or to celabrate an important occasion, you won't regret it. Service is friendly and accomodating.

Perhaps I took a wrong turn and arrived at another restaurant named Pampano. That's the only reason I can explain the disparity between multiple reviews and the following comments: very good margaritas in a rather cozy bar, then seated in an outdoor patio(not requested) where the wind, noise, muddled menu, so so service, and very disappointing food (all four persons were unanimous) conspired to make a very unpleasant evening. Perhaps the chef was taking his 8PM siesta! Even a free margarita wouldn't lure me back.

First, let me say the quality of the food was excellent. Perfectly spiced and expertly prepared. Margarita's mixed to die for. However, the main upstairs dining room was very cold and drafty. The wonderful french doors leading to the outside patio must make for a great experience in the summer. But they need serious weather stipping for something - the icy draft from between the large cracks between the doors was suprising and unaccceptable. We watched as the host continually tried seating people along the windows and every single one wound up complaining and moving. I can't image they cannot do something about this, because it made what would have been a divine dinner somewhat miserable. I won't be back until summer!

We rarely rate a restaurant so highly, but PAMPANO earned our praise. The beautifully appointed bar and equally well executed upstairs dining room combined with perfect Spanish background music provided a very comfortable setting for the terrific food and attentive service. Pampano has, without question, the best Margaritas in the city. DON'T miss this great new restaurant!
