I went here with friends last night. Service at the beginning was good - drinks and appetizers came quickly. Wine was great, salads decent. Then it went downhill. When they cleared our plates they took the dirty utensils off the plate and set them on the table - I asked for clean utensils but the busboy either didn't hear me or ignored me. When the entrees came out, the waitress was just calling the dish out ("Who had this?) and set the cheese and pepper on the table without offering to serve them. The entrees were ok, but pasta was undercooked. She never came back to ask how we were doing. They cleared the plates before one girl could say she wasn't finished eating. We had to wave to get the waitress's attention to order dessert as she stood in the corner doing nothing. She came over and took half our orders then walked away again. After trying to wave her down again we gave up and just got the check. It wasn't terrible but as a former waitress I can't stand bad service, and there are so many better places in the East Village. Go elsewhere!

My girlfriend and I recently discovered Paprika, after being invited there for brunch a few Sundays ago. I'd walked past many times without ever trying it. I was expecting the usual trendy downtown spot filled with bleary-eyed hipsters in Ray-Bans and Converse, and Feist on the stereo. Turns out I was spot on. But what makes the place exceptional is that unlike its local competition Paprika can boast nice service, good value and wonderful food. I ordered the fruit pancakes which were the best I've had in a long time, not tough at all. The brunch menu costs a mere $9.95, which includes coffee and a cocktail. We were so impressed we went back the following week!

An episode of Blind Date was shot at Paprika. If the people on that show knew it was good, then clearly that defines the taste for the rest of the restaurant. I kid. The portions at Paprika are small so that you don't feel guilty eating them and you don't need to bring leftovers home, but they fill you up enough. The appetizers and entres are completely satisfying.

While visiting NY, we randomly picked Paprika for dinner reservations and were very pleased! The food was wonderful, (the ONLY reason I gave 9 instead of 10 was because the table bread was a little tough), the wine was great, and the service was friendly. I would definately visit again!
