My wife and I ate there last night and are both horribly sick today. We think it was the braised beef, but it could have also been something in the salad. do yourself a favor and don't ever eat at this disgusting, dirty place. Just checked their health dept rating, and while it does say that they got an A, it lists violations saying the place has live roaches, vermin, and that there are "sewage associated flies" present in the food prep areas, so I suppose its no shock we're both so sick. Save yourself the vomiting and visit one of the many other meatpacking restaurant options.

Pastis usually has great food, a lively bistro atmosphere and excellent service but a recent brunch seemed more designed to extract maximum $$$ from a maximum no. of naive tourists than to provide a pleasant weekend meal. A "carafe" of wine (normally a liter) turns out to be a half liter, effectively doubling the price from what the menu implies, and two eggs with an admittedly tasty sauce but otherwise unaccompanied by bread or anything else (the "bread basket" is $36) hardly provide much sustenance. The well-organized and friendly McNally service pushes the limits on brusque to ensure maximum turnover rather than a leisurely weekend experience.

We were there last night 08/20/2011. Food was very good, service was efficient and helpful (we dont care much about waiters personality in Europe, as soon as they do their job). I read in the rest of the reviews that the place is loud. Have you ever been into a bistro in Paris????. There was a summer storm and people dinning out were sited inside at once. I'm sorry to say but you new yorkers are a bit spoiled. The place is great and cocktails...wonderful.

I will keep this short: Steak, eggs, potatoes....meh....steak was bland...not even a little tasty. Bloody Maries, as they like to call them, were decent....waiter had little personality. Won't back...$75 for brunch you don't enjoy doesn't seem worth it to me. The shrimp cocktail was decent....don't bother with that mayo sauce- stick to the cocktail sauce! Been to much better places and so can you!

I was primed to hate Pastis. Every prior attempt to eat here had been greeted with an unacceptably long wait. A glance inside indicated that it was too loud, too touristy, too B&T, too emblematic of the more obnoxious elements of the Meatpacking District. But. I went on a Sunday at around 8 o'clock in the evening. Initially, I was told that the wait would be about 40 minutes. My companion hadn't arrived, so I settled in at the bar for a much-needed bloody mary (which was excellent) while I waited for her to get here so we could go somewhere else. She arrived, and we checked with the maitre'd on the way out the door to greener pastures. To my surprise, we were seated immediately at a corner banquette (with the stipulation that we be gone by 10, or else we would be turned into pumpkins, or possibly pumpkin ale). The seat was comfy and afforded a nice view of the admittedly beautiful space. The place is indeed loud, and you will likely be seated cheek-to-jowl with other people. But the food was good. The braised beef and carrots was butter-knife tender and the goat cheese salad was, I'm told, quite tasty. My opinion of Pastis has shifted and lifted. If the wait is long, head down the block to Five Ninth. But if your timing is good, you will be rewarded with good food, a lively scene, and a very pretty room.

There's absolutely nothing special about this place: the food is mediocre, the service alternates between "OK" and "poor", and the atmosphere is loud and full of unpleasant types. We went for brunch, and were disappointed in the coffee, oatmeal and French toast: it was certainly nothing special and might well have been served in any diner. I don't know where they get their bread from, but other places (Bar Tartine in San Francisco) tend to make it on-site; Pastis, it would seem, goes to none of that effort. Service was particularly interesting: one waitress tells me not to take photos in the restaurant just as I snap a shot of my wife. I quiz her about this: it's certainly not posted, but I let it slide. Instead, I approach another waitress to take a photo of the two of us, which she happily goes about. As to the crowd, there's a difference between "bustling" and crowded. Don't dress it up: the place is packed with people more interested in being seen than in good food or company.

This place has a great vibe - lots of cool Meat-Packing types hanging out & great deserts. Just don't tell them you have an allergy. In most restaurants, the waiter lets the chef know and you are done. Not at Pastis! They take this really seriously. I was informed that they have a special procedure. I was approached by a man with more the character of a Law & Order Special Investigator. Wearing a black suit and sporting a Kojak-like baldy, he interrogated me about the nature of my allergy, if I had an epinephrine injector on my person, etc. Further, he warned me that trace amounts of peanuts could find their way into any dish. Well, their procedure worked, as I am still alive to tell this story. However, my table mates were quite shocked. In fact, anyone within a table's distance of this interrogation now knows far more about peanut allergies then they ever expected to learn. Thank you, Pastis, for educating the world. The waiter was embarrassed, but the private detective they use for these investigations returned several times to make sure I was still alive. I dont blame Kojak, as I know he was just doing his job; but, really Pastis, is this how you show how much you care?

One of those overrated restaurants in NYC... Food is ok, but nothing to tell friends about. The scene is pretty nice, but the service was a bit slow and, for what you get there, they should be cutting back the price about 30-40%...

frequent customer on mondays for dinner with the wife, always expect a crowd and great food, dont expect room to eat, tables are really close. service is ok. overall a great place to have a good fresh meal. my choice is the half lobster. bon appetite....

Brunch at this restaurant will not disappoint. The layout and decor remind me of some brasseries I dined at in Paris during my college years. It is one of the most adorable restaurant settings in Manhattan. As for the food, it amazed me. My party started with the warm goat cheese petatou, which I would order again in a second. The bloody marie and champagne a la fraise cocktails tasted great and helped ease the head strain from the previous night. For a main dish, I would suggest the Eggs Benedict, which was perfectly poached and served with just the right amount of hollandaise. Delicious!
