THE BEST GREEK!!!
By dashma on 9/5/2011
We love this restaurant. It is such a refreshing place to dine. The staff is the nicest and most attentive in the city. THe service is always very quick and waiters eager to please. The food is amazing and can't be beat for the price. I love the beets with the garlic. And the fish is always so fresh and simple. I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This is one of the places we go out to for a "nice" meal. It has those things I find essential - good food, good service, a pleasant and quiet setting. I always order the grilled octopus (you either love it or you don't: I do). Lamb is excellent. Fish specials are simple and elegant. Desserts are the only shortcoming: unimaginative standard Greek-style pastries. Fill up on starters!
Beware of Greeks...

I've never had a good or memorable meal here, but they give you a lot of food. Should you find yourself here, the best strategy is to order two appetizers. They're ok and big enough for an entire meal. I've had moussaka (not so great), chicken kabobs (chicken was tough and flavorless), tzatziki (nothing to write home about) and sardines (ditto). The greek salad is a pretty safe bet. There's usually a fish special (branzino) which is good but simply prepared. Desserts are also not notable. I haven't found a great Greek restaurant in Manhattan yet, but Molyvos would be a better choice for price and value.

Was looking forward to trying this out after hearing raves from friends. We came in on a rainy night, and the maitre'd looked horrified to see us in raincoats and umbrellas, like he'd never dealt with people coming in with them before. Totally gave us attiude, and went on to reference the "nice banquettes" they have that we were presumably going to ruin with our rain-soaked selves. For the record, we were hardly wet and it was totally bizarre. After that ridiculousness, we were definitely disappointed by the food, especially the spanikopita which looked like a tiny frozen phyllo thing you'd get from Dean and Deluca--the catalog. Not going back.
We will NOT return!

I went there on a Friday night. The hostess was very nice and seated us promptly, despite our being 10 minutes late for our reservation. The meatballs appetizer was tasty, and my date's rack of lamb (misrepresented on the menu and by the waiter as "lamb chops") was good as well. However, I ordered the herb roasted chicken with lemon roasted potatoes and it was so awful I had to send it back. My date and I both agreed that the chicken was incredibly bland, barely an herb was detectable, and the potatoes were awkwardly large and not crisply roasted - they almost tasted boiled! Yuck! The food sat in a watery liquid that further insulted the dish. Our dessert, Baklava, was stale. We will not return.
Please Do NOT Miss this Place

I have never written a review in my life, but I love this restaurant and I cannot allow for the sole review to be completely false. This is one of the few "go-to" places in the city. Always fresh, always delicious. It is literally the best grilled calamari that has ever graced my mouth. The octupus is wonderful as well. All of the grilled fish is superb and the Greek salad is divinely simplistic. I have sent countless people here and every time, without fail, all I get is thanks in return.
