Maybe, it was best restaurant before but, to me, not anymore at this point (30th of sept. 2015). The restaurant served cold bread that looks like just came from refridgerator while the weather was little bit cold too. My wife asked warm bread and the the waiter said just one pharase "no warm bread here". I am pretty sure the water provided is tap water. The quality of water was worse than fast food restaurant. The waiter (about 50 years old) was not kind at all but even rude and still expected tips. I would not recommend this place. This is the restaurant for tourist expecting the fame of old restaunt. There are hundreds of better restaunts for this price range in NYC. I regrect I gave tips to the waiter.

I had dinner at Peter Luger's yesterday for a friends Birthday. With all the great things I heard about this place, I was soooo excited to go, already planning to make reservations for my father's Birthday at the end of the month. I must say I couldn't possibly be more disappointed. We had 2- porterhouse steaks for 2, medium rare, and it was the most bland steak I ever tasted. I sat there trying to season it with salt and pepper. I attempted eating it with steak sauce but it tasted like cocktail sauce. I honestly can't believe how so many people could enjoy what we had. Even my friends, who had been there before, said our steak had no flavor and the cream of spinach wasn't as creamy as their last experience. Honestly I would never come back here. The porterhouse steak I get at Outback Steakhouse has 10 times more flavor than the one I had yesterday. The waiters were great, and the German potatoes were good (can't really f*ck those up), but the steak was a huge disappointment. Save your money, this $300 meal wasn't even worth a quarter of the amount.

Peter Lugers - I can honestly say you were my worst dining experience in NYC. The service was terrible, our apps came after our steak and strangely enough our sides after that. The steak was fine but to be honest i hate the fact its comes in boiling butter / fat..... Your creamed spinach had no cream, no seasoning and was more like tasteless spinach puree.... the hash brown again zero seasoning and dry. You forgot the baked potato and I'm sorry to say we still requested it, Huge mistake as when it turned up it was luke warm and dry with missing sour cream. We ordered 3 steaks, 1 rare, 1 medium rare & 1 medium and i can honesty say there was ZERO different, all cooked the same, all under seasoned and all covered in boiling fat. I can only guess that your business model has been adapted from a fine restaurant to now one living off its history and ripping off one time visitors and tourists. If anyone fancys a steak try East Hampton Grill/ Hillstone, Keens, The Palm, Red, Prime 112, Quality Meats, BLT Prime any day but please stay away from Peter Lugers... A wasted $187.00 ! and $100 bucks to Uber there and back... O and the place stank of grease & your the only high end restaurant which serves cold break and fridge cold butter. Please try to butter cold bread with solid cold butter. To be fair the Ice Cream Sundae was amazing

So I'm not exactly a local -- and I rarely venture into manhattan, so I can't say for sure -- but boy can I recognize a steak when I taste one. I've been stationed out here for a bit now and go to all sorts of places to eat with coworkers but this place is one of the tastiest. Definitely the best among steakhouses we've been to. We got a ridiculous porterhouse for four, which we had for lunch, which also kept me out of commission for dinner. I saw some other tables ordering giant slabs of other meat and slabs of bacon, seems like a fair number of locals know exactly what to get when they come here. The service was jovial but more or less distant -- nothing horrible, just nothing special -- but boy, was the steak a steak. Don't think I've had anything this good in the realm of red meat back home.

An impromptu decision led me to choose Peter Lugers for dinner with an out of town guest. I must say, this was an AMAZING dinner. Our waiter was fantastic, the decor was warm and everything was delicious. This was my first trip to a steakhouse of any kind, as I prefer places that can pull their weight in every area, not just with steak: this was worth the chance. I think the only sub-par occurance of the evening was that my filet mignon was not as tender as it could be, but they captured the flavor and cooked it to perfection!

Peter Luger's steak is great. Medium rare it is a flavorful, excellent steak. The tomatoes and onions were excellent. Service was very good. The side dishes were fried to perfection and the creamy spinach delightful. Dessert is a treat with sclag. It is truly a treat to eat here for foods sake. The ambience is from the 1800's,noise high and value questionable. Party of four, steak for four, sides ,etc., four drinks, dessert, $367 includes tax no tip!

The steak is pure and delicious. I recommend medium rare which is much more favorful than medium well. The side vegetables are unexpectedly good. Compared to steak houses in the same category as Peter Luger's, the pricing is excellent. There is enough space between tables that bringing kids would be fine.

i am slowly on my way to becoming a vegetarian, but our medium rare was truly to die for. i do not know what they did to that cow, but it's absolute magic by the time it gets to you. we were worried by accounts of scary waiters, but ALL of ours were absolutely doting and fantastic. worth the wait for a reservation, or for those looking for a way back from the vegan world.

Peter Luger is hands down the best steak in New York.I have not had a better steak any where in the world as a matter of fact.Many places try to copy from them,but none can come close.Simply the best.
