The food was not authentic peruvian at all, it lacked flavor. The waiters were average although no one came around to ask if everything was ok. The man who seemed to be the manager, was extremely rude and dismissive, he was stuck up and didn't even bother to look us in the eye whenever he came to the table. When a waiter spilled the hot sauce from the table all over my purse, the manager just sighed heavily and insulted the waiter in Spanish- very unprofessional in my opinion. We were not even offered any kind of complimentary desert or coffee for my ruined bag.
When the bill came we were surprised to find that they only accept American Express, when we asked the manager where that was mentioned and he said there was a sign on the door and on the menu. When we went back to look at the menu sure enough it was there, but in minuscule writing, and the sign on the door said American Express welcomed, not American Express only. Overall it was a waste of my time and money to eat at Pio Pio.

Great food. Entree portions are a great size. Very good for groups...my family loves this place. We have gone for a number of different occasions. Jelea and sangria are awesome.

La comida es buena, pero la atención es pésima. Los camareros, sucios y sudorosos, prácticamente te botan para que entre más gente y puedan recibir más propinas. No lo recomiendo.

I went to Pio Pio Saturday, March 21, 2009 with two friends. The food came fairly fast but the service was rush and not very professional. It seems they were hired to put food on the tables clear the plates and seat more people ASAP. The food is not bad but it's not very good either and if you consider that you have to deal with bad service, lots of people going around trying to get you out and the noise level then you might as well find another place. To top it off I left my scarf there and when I returned to get it a few minutes later all the waiters were looking the other way, nobodody offered help. The manager didn't care. I know I left it tide to the chair so it was impossible for it to be lost. They decided (waiters and managers) to keep it and that was all. They didn't make any effort even though I told them that it had a sentimental value for me. To make the story short, think twice if you get invited to go there. You might lose more than a scarf.

With amazing food like the Peruvian food you would expect at least good service, only a couple of the waiters are very attentive, the rest of them in most cases don't even bother coming to the table to check on you, don't get me wrong the place is worth the walk for those who live in the UWS and need comfort food at a great value.
Few things , are good , seafood seems fresh and the chicken is really good deal if u order the big combo, of course if u are not in a diet!
The woman who takes care of the delivery is totally horrible with the customers, I ordered twice , and the two times I got something wrong in it. she is for sure not doing the right job!!!!

My first time was just this past Saturday. My sister had been telling me about it and how much she loves the food -- especially the chicken. We shared fried calamari appetizer and mixed seafood with rice dish entree -- very good! I took home an order of the Matador Combo for my boyfriend, so I got a chance to taste the seafood and the chicken (the chicken is my favorite too!). WOW. Am very impressed!!

Although the service is a bit lacking, the food is superb, and generous in portion size. Some friends and I came for my birthday in Oct 2007 and enjoyed a great meal. We shared several pitchers of Sangria and 5 dishes (including the chicken and juela) and still came in at $30pp.

I had been hearing nothing but good things about Pio Pio, and decided to go there with my boyfriend on a Friday after work. Despite being loud and crowded, the food was okay - the "Matador Special" easily feeds two people with larger appetities. However, my boyfriend was up all night feeling sick from the meal, so perhaps the ingredients were not so fresh. The service, however, was nothing short of horrible. Unattentive waiters would pause by our table to see if we needed anything and then virtually disappear. Upon asking for the check, we had to wait nearly 15 minutes for the check to arrive (curious, given the line outside the door) and then once the check was presented, we saw that we had been double-charged for the sangrias, which we had been instructed to pay for at the bar. I always leave a tip, no matter how bad, but this time, we left nothing at all. It is unfortunate that a restaurant earning such praise for its food will ultimately suffer if its wait staff does not improve.
