My absolute favorite was the Piggy Back Date. It was crunchy and salty on the outside, and then as you bite into it, it deliciously melts in your mouth, and then you finish with the slightest bit of crunch. The key is to eat it slowly. You have to savor it and let the food lead you to a playful dance. And when I finished, I knew I had fallen in love with my "date." Read more at www.hesaidshesaid09.blogspot.com

I was looking to make a purchase of a chandelier and an antique style mirror when would you guess it… I found a really great tapas bar. Tapas bar? ABC Carpet and Home had the idea of combining a tapas bar with their insanely large showroom. Pipa Tapas Y Mas, like a Spanish version of Bad Bath and Beyond, but the food…way beyond the goods at BB&B. I still can’t decide if the idea was genius, or just derived from a really large surplus of free space. The first time I passed by this eatery on a Thursday night, it was claiming an hour long wait, and this was at around 8:30pm. I am really glad I found my way back here. Espanola salads and Spanish tortillas on the menu gave the feel of Barcelonan authenticity, while the mix of flamenco and Ricky Martin grounded us back in New York. The menu items were all prepared in simple yet elegant ways and then added a flare of flavor to make the dish really taste worthy. Read more at http://spoonfeeder.blogspot.com

First of all the Sangria was awsome, probably one of the best ive ever had. The food itself was deliscious, each dish came out hot and packed a lot of flavor. my friend that i went with is a vegetarian (im by nature a true carnivore and usually find vegetable dishes bland and boring) however, the dishes were delicious, i never though a plate of steamed spinach could have so much flavor. I definately reccommend and would definately go back.

Decided to check out this place, after the remake of both restaurants at ABC. To my surprise food was absolutely delicioso!! Very authentic catalan cuisine, all was very good, most notable, calamari and crab stuffed red peppers, omg, i wasn't even hungry. Will go again and take friends. Very nice decor and service as well.

First off, jessie777 how honest is your review when you had to be told to stop hitting on the manager's wife? Overall the food was great, the sangria was really tasty and the service was typical of most NY restaurants. The big payoff was how cool the place looks. Good food and drink mixed with off the hook atmosphere, that's a winner to me.

I just love Pipa and go here literally once a week. The food is, hands down, some of the best New York has to offer. The Calamari is my favorite and the Mushroom flatbread is so tasty! Not the mention the Red Sangria is really good!! The atmosphere is my favorite part, the chandeliers add a taste of sophistication while the rest of the decor add a flare of easiness. The service could be a lot better, but don't let that stop you from trying this place!

We went into Pipa's on a sunday afternoon, both the decor and the menu looked interesting. The host informed us that the main dining section was closed, so we sat in the bar area. While the food was reasonably good (we ended up ordering the Wild Mushrooms and Ham Croquettes tapas), the service at the bar was terrible and insulting, to the point that the (red-headed) waitress had major attitude issues when we asked for a coffee refill. This has been the first time EVER that I didn't leave ANY tip at all, that's how terrible the service was! Reading thru the comments from previous reviewers, this seems to be an ongoing issue, and nothing has really changed. Go elsewhere if you want to have a good time.

I've been to this spot a few times -- always friendly, warm, and very social. Great wine & Sangria, plenty of authentic small plates to try & share w/friends. It's fun both in the bar area with some community seating and plenty of mingling possibility, and also in the dining room. Would definitely recommend it!

I guess everything improved since the last opinion on here is from 2005. I have gone here twice in the last 6 months and have had no problems. First time I was with a large group with no reservations. We waited by the bar and it was a really busy Friday. It took a while but the hostess got us a table. My husband and friends are picky and/or vegetarians, I am neither. However, everyone found the food delicious and we didn't have to pull teeth to find items on the menu we could all share. However, the service did lack attentiveness. The waiter had to be reminded of things we asked for. But overall it was enjoyable. I just went back last night with an old friend and the service was great. It was busy but our waiter made sure we had everything we needed and made some suggestions to us. Shrimp and Crab croquette, very good! We spent three hours at Pipa and enjoyed the great atmosphere, food and sangria. I recommend trying the white asparagus, patatas (with mustard aioli), and calamari. No snooty 5 star feeling (or ball gown) when I was there either.
