My boyfriend took me here to celebrate our 6-year anniversary. It was our first time at The Place. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. Everything is made to order and with the freshest ingredients. I had the Cajun seafood stew with potatoes an excellent choice on a wintry evening next to the fire place. For dessert I had the home made sorbet trio. The atmosphere is charming and inviting, small and intimate. The Place is perfectly situated on a tree lined block in the heart of the West Village. I couldn't have asked for better food or service. Then he proposed to me at the restaurant. The manager and staff congratulated us and gave us a round of complementary drinks. The Place is a Perfect 10 for a romantic date night!!

Reason I give the service a 10 is they did all the little things to the T! I went there for a special date with my gf and I called ahead to tell the host that it was my gf's birthday and he not only gave us a great table but also wished her a happy bday which surprised her and got the night off to a nice start. The waitress was attentive without being budding in on a romantic night. Food was Excellent! My gf's veggie/seafood eater and she loved the place. We shared a sweet potato ravioli app (excellent) and I had a duck dish (the one where duck is prepared 3 diff. styles) and was pretty happy w/ the selection. The place is romantic and simple and makes for a great first date spot or great for a special occasion. It's not cheap but not exactly pricey at all. App/entres/glasses of wine all came to $100.

Dont believe the hype on this place.I walked by it one day with my girlfriend and thought it look really nice and reviews were all really good. Went there last night and The Place is horrible. The decor is beautiful, but they cram so many tables in there that it ruins any intimacy - loud, stuffy, and overly crammed. The goat cheese ravioli w/ beets had an unbalanced flavor profile but wasnt horrible. The hierloom tomato gazpacho was decent but pretty much due to the beautiful tomatos. The main courses were so bland it was laughable. Cod with a taragon butter sauce ($27) that the waitress raved about had about 1 and a half teapoons of sauce drizzled on the perimiter and none on the actual fish. The same bland flavors were displayed on the Pork tenderloin over basmati rice with a pear sauce which had the same barely there and two measely nuggets of pear hiding in the rice. Cant tell you about the dessert because after not even wanting to finish my $25 dollar entree and getting bumped by a waiter for the 25th time, all I wanted was my overinflated check. BLAHH

The Place is a lovely, charming and quaint restaurant in the village. I went the other night with a date and we both had a lovely experience. The ambiance is very old world. Though the restaurant is small, I didnt feel crowded. We ordered a bottle of wine from the reasonably prices wine list. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive all night. I ordered a salad and had the mussels for an entree. My date ordered the fish stew. I wish I remembered all the details about the entrees, but I am not able to recall. My salad was pretty standard, though not overly saturated with dressing thankfully. My mussles were great, cooked in a garlic broth with lots of flavor. My dates fish stew was really quite good. However, he left feeling a little hungry still. Overall, we had a lovely evening that I think was amplified by the lovely surroundings.

My fiance and I had a lovely time. The service was excellent. We didn't even notice the servers, they were that good. The food and decor made our evening. I proposed that very evening. It was that good.

I discover THE PLACE with my dear lover on a heavy snowing night. My love come from Tel Aviv, me from Montreal, this place make us feel like in Europe. The warm atmosphere was perfect. 100 % romantic. The service was perfect. The scalops with celery puree and port wine was amazing. The duck delicious and beautifully presented. In conclusion : it's the perfect place for a very romantic dinner, especially on a cold night. Francois Picard
