i visited first time the day the restaurant opened. the medeium filet (they have a different name) was overcooked. the service was not great but it was day one so i revisited end of october and found the restaurant a bit better, even though wait was long and service poor. visited again last week, for the last time. everything went wrong, the new york strip was not a new york strip, the fish was undercooked and different to what the waiter described, service was poor, even the coffee was cold. i doubt this restaurant can survive in the same address of some very good restaurants

Big space and good steaks, but nothing inspired. Decor is pleasant, but like everything else, does not feel 'special'. In a city filled with home runs at this price level (and even down the hall), can a restaurant that is a solid single make it?

I believe they have got it right. Food & wine were terrific although pricey but not unusual for NYC. Wine list excellent. Decor is what one would expect from a first class place down to the napkins and table cloth. The staff including the service personnel were all good and obviously highly trained. Worth a visit with parking under neath.

This place is great for large parties. We celebrated a birthday on Saturday night with a group of people. It is very spacious and looks more like an upscale steakhouse compared to V Steakhouse. It is not as pricey as some of the reviews made it out to be. I can name a few that already come to mind that are more expensive. I was not too impressed with the wine list. I wish they had more of a Bordeaux selection. Go with the Flowers Pinot Noir. It goes well with the Cajun Ribeye, very tasty. The sides were suprisingly small but delicious. If you do not eat meat then stick with the Lobster out of the shell. If you want to enjoy a nice night out this place should suffice.

Porter House located in the former Jean-George ill fated steak house space is a beautiful restaurant, and a professionally run establishment that feels like it has been here for years; perhaps decades. The front desk staff and floor manager positions are populated with pros. Additionally the bar area runs like a Swiss watch. The seating areas have adequate space between tables, and many of the tables have great views of Central Park, Columbus Circle, or the Manhattan skyline. The service staff are outstanding; seasoned professional waiters and enthusiastic bus boys. Wine service is knowledgeable and top notched. The wine list is comprehensive and reflects strong United States regional reds, including some fine Long Island wines (Grapes of Roth Merlot at the top of that list) which are perfect to go with the steaks and meats. And the food is fantastic. While the steaks (outstanding Porterhouses, Sirloins, Fillets) and other meats are outstanding as expected. the fish and fowl dishes are equally outstanding. All the "sides" (as in any steak house) are ordered separately, but they are great and worthy of your attention. The price for such perfection is high, but the value is greater.

My wife and I are regulars. Last night we had the worst meal of our lives. My steak was tiny, and my wifes lamb chops were under cooked with no meat on the bone. They brought me a new steak, which was tough like shoe leather. The chef Michael came over, and was nasty to us. We have eaten there over 20 times in the last 2 years. We will inform our many friends who we told to go to Portorhouse, not to go anymore. I hope they go out of business. Empire Hotel is opening a great new steak house!

My wife and I showed up on a Monday night without a reservation and were seated immediately at a window table with an outstanding view. The room was nicely decorated. Even with lots of other people it wasn't too noisy. The drinks came promptly and the server was friendly. I had lamb chops and my wife chose swordfish. Both were excellent and cooked as we requested. The mac & cheese side dish was bland and uninteresting but the rest of the meal was outstanding. I look forward to going back.

What it does not say in the review is that Porter House has an amazing Prix Fixe menu. We left full and had probably the best steak some of us had eaten ever. Our friend ordered the Salmon and literarly polished the plate of. The waiter was extremely helpful, the wine expert helped us pick the most amazing wine that suited all of our taste buds. Our friend who eats steak on a regular ordered the filet minion from the regular menu and could not get enough of it. The dessert was delicious...we were full and still ate all of it. This was a great dining experience and as a bonus the view is great as well!

The decor looked great, the special $35 price for 3 courses seemed fine, but as I looked at the window next to my table, I saw the wooden blinds were caked with dust. And the top of some circular booths near us also were dust covered. Totally turned us off. As for the meal, the steak was only only so-so, the dessert (chocolate torte) was too dry and no one even asked if we'd like a cup of coffee before the waiter brought the check. Very disappointing.

Porter House has a fabulous ambiance. Great views of the park. Waiters are knowledgable, and helpful, and do not rush you. Steaks are great and sides are even more fabulous! Adult mac-n-cheese; fabulous on a cold winters day. Will most certainly go back! Bravo, Mr. Lomonaco!
