Best Neighborhood place for Lunch!

I have been here for late breakfasts at 11am and for midweek lunch many times and I keep going back. I don't know about dinner but for lunch the service, food and atmosphere are all wonderful. I'm guessing its not as crowded as dinner, the waiters are very attentive and the food is delicious. I also love sitting in the booths by the large bright windows or under the huge skylight in the back room. I recommend the avocado sandwich, I've had many good soups, and my husband loves the pastrami too. Spazel is delish. I keep looking for a better lunch place and have yet to find it. It's not cheap but if you have the cash its well worth it.

Okay, but Not Worth the Investment

Hubby and I went there - excited by the lovely atmosphere, and outdoor seating. Our waiter was nice enough - but service was nothing special. I want to be fair, as it's been almost a year ago that we went - so we may be forgetting some of the better things - but what lingers in all this time is how very petite my Steak Tartare was - and how underwhelming most of the other food was in comparison to how overpriced it felt. Mind you - we are foodies. We don't mind in the least spending money on a great dining experience. This just wasn't one of them - it was honestly just okay. Again, service not bad - just nothing that made us want to come back. For us - we'll cross the street to Buttermilk Channel instead.

I've been going to Buttermilk Channel for several months now, and I've been curious to try Prime Meats, just across the street. Several of my friends highly recommended the food, but what they failed to tell me was how bad the service is...I overheard one of the guys from the kitchen talking down to one of the other workers...It seems like a miserable place to work, and they do a pretty good job communicating that to their clientele. It's extremely unprofessional to exhibit that kind of cockiness and pretension in front of diners... I would never return to this restaurant. The food was average and the service was rotten. I hope this restaurant reads these reviews and changes their obnoxious attitude. I noticed that I am just one of the many people who has experienced poor service at this establishment.

A Gastronomic Nightmare

This restaurant has some of the most pretnetious servors I have ever come into contact with, in NY. The food was just average. Nothing blew me away. I was mostly turned off by the attitude of the servors. This place seems to not understand one of the most fundamental rules in dining -- hospitality. From the moment we sat down, my friends and I felt rushed. Our food came out all at once -- appetizers and main courses. And, the waiter asked me several times whether I was done, when there was still food on my plate. The waiter even lectured us on punctuality....quite odd when you consider the fact that they do not take reservations....Apart from being rushed and spoken down to as though I were a 5-year-old misfit, the waiter asked if we could order our dessert at the bar so that they could seat another table....Outrageous! I will never step foot in this food establishment again!!!

I went to Prime Meats this past winter with a few friends, and I was blown away with the salads, especially the radish and anchovy salad. Overall the food was great! So, I was excited to return there this summer with friends visiting from Paris. We were shocked at how unfriendly and rude the service was. It was so bad that despite having enjoyed the food, I will most likely never return to this restaurant. I had heard from friends who work in the food business that the people running the restaurant were complete assholes. It seems as though its rubbing off on the whole establishment.

Amazing Saurbraten...but hold the bread????

So finally got out to Prime Meats (once again visiting the People's Republic of Park Slope - all papers and visas in order for penetration) - and I have to say that deliciousness was found in abundance! Firstly, I sampled the squash soup infused with pumpkin seeds & oil and it was quite yummy and unctuous; along with that was the tasty yet weirdly deported pretzel (part soft and homey, part hard & crunchy - a wee too nouvelle por moi, but yum nonetheless) - and then the main event - the sauerbraten atop red cabbage and pretzel dumplings - all I can utter is what the kids say in such a circumstance - OMG...OMFG...the meat, so succulent, so soft - I just wanted to spread it on a huge piece of some ruddy peasant bread (more on that in a bit) like butter...LIKE BUTTER!!! Beyond yum!! No human worthiness could counter that amazing bit of cow! Accoutrements equally delish - just an amazing plate of food - BIG PET PEEVE - uhhh, bread???? A "for cost" bread plate - which they didn't even have...I practically had to beg for some almost stale-ish thin shingles of the stuff - guys, a nice proffered basket of bread is still a fairly recognized part of any dining experience and would have been a very welcomed addition to this lovely meal - FYI (yes, people, especially the chubby, love their gluten...oh yeah!!). Pleasantly dark environs and very good service btw; I would definitely return but, please, adhere to the old gourmand adage, A LOAF OF BREAD, a jug of beer...yada yada yada!! _

Sure, but don't take bother if you live outside of Crooklyn

There are loads of great steakhouses in Manhattan; I don't need to list 'em. There are loads of perfectly fine steakhouses in Crooklyn; I don't need to list 'em either, though Peter Luger I am *not* looking at you. And if it's wurst you want, Radegast is always a treat, and cheap, to boot. That said: Prime Meats is fine. Not great, not at all. Fine. Prices are okay, though the special steak, at $2.5 an ounce (true, for 2, but still) is not okay. The weisswurst is what it should be, though it'd be much tastier with a char from a grill than boiled. Salads are good; tomatoes are nice; the schnitzel -- pork, not veal -- wasn't overcooked, and the potato salad was nice (though schnitzel is better with cucumbers; how about it, folks?). Service was mixed: one waiter had no clue about anything German, or for that much anything on the menu; another did have a clue. Cocktails were delicious and about priced for the course; wines were good, if limited in scope. Would I go back? Yes. But only if I'm nearby. Definitely not worth the trip on the F from Manhattan.

Shame on you Prime Meats on 465 Court St. in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, NY !!!

On Sunday June 27th we took our 65 year old German mother out for her birthday dinner. We arrived at Prime Meats at 5 PM, when the fashionably dreary restaurant was practically empty. My mother asked for the table for four and said my sister and her husband were about to join us in 10 minutes. The kurt response to me from the basketball player size hostess/waitress in her twenties was: 'We do not sit the incomplete parties. You and your petite mother can have a drink at our high bar with no stools located in a very cramped front room while you wait for the rest of the party.' The second sentence is slightly embellished to illustrate the sheer nonsense of her offer but you get the gist. The restaurants staff unbelievable ignorance in the PR area annihilated all our good will towards the spot, so we left and had a delicious diner in cheerfully decorated, innovative and friendly Miriam on 5th Avenue in Park Slope. We hope that Prime Meats management is reading the reviews. We are in the restaurant industry, so we know what we are talking about. We are also big spenders when we go out to check other establishments. This is our first negative review posted on the web. Shame on you Prime Meats for failing the Hospitality 101! Scott.

We had a lovely meal here. The steaks were the best I've had in NYC (sorry Luger fans) and the brisket very tasty. The salads were fresh and bright (especially the celery salad) and we enjoyed the raw bar as well. Too full to try dessert, but the food was just very good. The service was up and down, but that might have been due to the loud customers sitting next to us causing great havoc about what a pork belly really is.... Will definitely return for the delicious savory food.
