Since I saw that Queen's Hideaway was closing, I thought I'd write a review from when I had dinner there. Is it really the lease, or is it that the restaurant is a bit average? I read about QH in edible Brooklyn a few months ago and thought it looked great so, driving by one day hungry, I stopped in. The food was fine, I think. However, it was more like what I'd expect from a friend's potluck dinner. Again, not a bad thing, but for the money, I just couldn't go back. The portions were teensy for the prices. And though the waitress was fine, she didn't exactly make us feel at home. Sorry, Greenpoint. I'm not trying to be harsh but all I remember was the portion size and the pain in my wallet.

I had a great meal here over a year ago while visiting from SF. We had the chef's tasting menu and the experience was unbelievable. One of the best meals I've ever had- after working in the industry for six years as a cook/chef. The honest and careful approach to the ingredients was inspiring! And the name of farms on the menu was a delight to see. A must eat!

without a doubt the worst service i have ever experienced. the waitress made us feel so unwelcome and was comically rude. the other reviewer was right -- no one with any self-respect should pay to be treated like crap. the meal was above average, but even if it were superb, it wouldn't have compensated for the service.

I loved this place. Boiled peanuts, fresh menu items. I guess some of the other reviewers got caught on nights that they were having a staff issue or something. I got my food in plenty of time and it was exceptional. Some of the wine seemed expensive but I have been here several times and always felt the pricing was fair. Fresh ingredients and daily menus do not come for "Greenpoint" prices and to say the menu had Manhattan prices is just unfair. Was my server there to kiss my ass, no, but did she do a perfectly acceptable job in a prompt fashion, yes. Not only would I, but I cant wait to go back

I was surprised by the price points ($13 glasses of wine in Greenpoint? Okay, that's new) but the food wooed me. Maybe I'm a sucker, but getting boiled peanuts as a gratis starter in NYC captured my attention right away. (I can't find green peanuts ANYWHERE to boil on my own. Believe me, I've looked and looked for years!) Having eaten a few meals here and not having seen the same menu twice, I have to give kudos to the kitchen for keeping the plates original, local and loaded with fresh ingredients. If only they sourced their wait staff as carefully as their vegetables. I hate to sound fussy, and I really don't mind paying a premium for high quality food, but if the waiters could possibly not wear trucker hats and bring a fresh knife after the appetizer (toasted bruschetta with gorgeous lard shavings TO DIE FOR), that would have been nice. My whole branzino was cooked to perfection, but the spontaneous shouting coming from the kitchen wasn't my favorite. As the NY Mag reviewer puts it, this place is scruffy. But it is a gem.

ridiculously overpriced for what it is...menu descriptions not at all representative of what you get on your plate...wise up Greenpoint! you can't get away with charging manhattan prices unless your food is exceptional which it certainly isn't...don't waste your money, this place is taking the piss....

the waiters do not show any respect. in fact awfully rude. Eating out you pay for both food and service ... you do not need to pay good money for ppl to treat you like crap.

We arrived fr Manhattan and BedStuy, looking forward to a great meal based on positive reviews. It did not live up to the hype. After being seated we realized that no other table in the place had any food! The menu was interesting, definitely playing off seasonal produce (rubarb & strawberries in the pork entree, pea shoots in the salad). But the service both in the kitchen and on the floor was horrible. Our sole waiter seemed overwhelmed which was a mystery considering the lack of plates coming out of the kitchen. The chef seemed oblivious to how long her customers were waiting. For such a limited menu, couldn't some prep work be organized for such a small place? An hour for salad? Nearby at another table, our neighbors indicated they had been waiting for 2 hours! We toasted them with the last sips frrom our glasses of wine as it was the only thing on our table! The entrees were actually quite good (the pork especially). But not worth the long wait. (And all our friends in Greenpoint - who I should have called before coming - agreed that the service was terrible - especially the painfully long wait.)
