The Asian hostess has an attitude problem. Extremely rude.

I had been to this place one day with friends and I had loved the atmosphere and the dish I had there was flavorful and delicious. The day after, since I loved it so much, I took a date there. Halfway through our meal, I see a rat crawl down the wall and terrorize a table of old ladies. The waitress tried to tell us that it had probably come in from the outside while the door had been open. Nice try.

My 2.5 year old is allergic to seaood. The restaurant was empty and we asked them to leave out the fish sauce. The manager told me that I should not eat there since they will not make any changes....incl just leaving out the sauce. Very rude and obnoxious. Totally oblivious to how to deal with customers. Will definitely not go back and will tell all my friend to avoid. Much better restaurants in the area in the same price range.

I’ve loved Republic since it opened. But tonight I was told I could only get the salmon, my longtime fav, med-rare. Besides the possible health reasons why 1 might not want to have it prepared thusly, I simply enjoy it well-done, with crispy skin & firm flesh. The chef isn’t eating or paying for the food, I am. To deny the diner the choice of how they want something cooked (I wasn’t asking for different sauce or alternate side) is simply outrageous, like suddenly instituting a dress-code in a casual dining joint. The server said it has been a constant source of complaint & that the chef won’t even take peanuts out of a dish any more. I was gravely disappointed, tried one of the sandwiches, which could be purchased at any of dozens of Vietnamese joints, and won’t be going back.

I have eaten here a few times. Every time the food has been excellent! The blood orange mojito is by far the BEST mixed drink I have ever had. There is this rice dish with tomato paste and shrimp and chinese sausage it was to die for!

Went with some friends on a Saturday night. It was really busy and we ended up waiting for about half an hour. We were finally seated and, I guess since it was super busy, it took a while for them to take our order. However the food did come quickly. I ordered the curried duck noodles. Although the flavor was good, the dish was more like a vegetable stir fry topped with a little bit of noodles and three small pieces of fatty duck meat. My friend had the Vietnamese Chicken Soup and that was actually pretty good. Overall I was really disappointed in my experience given the rave reviews I heard from my friends...and I will not be going back.

ordered the veggie curry noodle soup noodles were hard... soup wasn't particularly tasty... but more importantly, there was a maggot in my soup. that's right, a MAGGOT. subsequently found a website which details this restaurant's shady health inspection past: http://nyc.everyblock.com/restaurant-inspections/

Tables look like a university canteen and the staff is too busy to be attentive but can you really complain for that price? You pay for the food, which is pretty good!

I love Republic and I've been there several times. The drinks and appetizers are my favorite aspects. My only gripe is wishing they were bigger. Delicious sauces and sips with tastes you've rarely tried. The entrees are very unique and I always feel like I'm eating healthy and fresh food. The "cafeteria-style" seating and noise level is to be loved or hated. I love it with a big group and for meeting new people who are randomly seated beside you. Not good for a 1st date b/c of the noise level, but great if you have nothing to say to them anyway! (Awkward blind dates) Definitely not a place for children...adult cafeteria!
