I had heard good things, and I've been to Marcus's Aquavit, so we were expecting greatness. If you go, be sure to avoid the table we had: in the hallway next to the server's station. Each time they grabbed some silverware, they slammed the drawer closed and we felt it in the back of our booth seat. Plus, we were privy to all their chit-chat about other tables--- not cool. When I ordered a Gibson to start, our waitress was not quite sure what it was. I explained that a Gibson is a gin martini served with cocktail onions. The woman at the next table said, 'I think he's the only man in the world who knows what a Gibson is!". The braised short rib dish was unique: the meat was seared into a block about the size of a deck of cards (but twice as thick). The result is a crisp, carbon exterior--- wonderfully, juicy within. About $140 for the three of us. Will not return.

I really liked this place! It's a beautiful space, elegant and warm-friendly service, I had a great asian pear sidecar to start, then short rib app, great starter, entree was a tasty red snapper, sauteed, with some yummy seaweedy-type item.Donuts! for dessert, and worth a trip back for! Loved it!

Excellent food, excellent service, the decor is simple but works. I have dinned at Riingo on several occasions. Being at many New York top restaurants - this is definitely one of them. Obviously this restaurant survived much longer than one of the reviewers predicted. I am not associated with anybody from Riingo - yet I loved it nevertheless
Lackluster Experience at Best

I have dined at Riingo several times in hopes that I would have the "Marcus Samuelsson" experience. Boy was I mistaken, he is NEVER there and it is obvious in everything from the food to the service. As a result, the place is empty everytime you go. On this site and citysearch, the employees and managers are the only ones writing good reviews, that is painfully obvious as all of the "true" reviews are bad and the only good ones are "contrived" at best. This should be a lesson to all NYC Chefs who spread themselves to thin. The "pitch it and ditch it attitude" results in poor product, abismal service, and an empty dining room. I give this place 3 more months. What a shame!!

One of the best meals of the decade. The combination japanese and american through Mracus Samuelsson is a winner. I wish more restaurant would be half as good as this one.

I just discovered this hidden gem. The food is spectacular, both on the japanese and the western side. The staff is very friendly and accomodating. Definitely worst discovering. I would recommend the ribs, especially as well as the tartares. The edamame spread is simply intoxicating

Brave Mr Samuelsson. I have been at Aquavit but never tried this new restaurant. It hasn'e been discovered yet, which is great to get a table. The food was out of this world and the wine list very well chosen. Appetizers are my favorite and desserts are spectacular.Service is very helpful in guiding us through the menu and create a great experience.
Good tasting food but way too small portions

We were a party of 6 and only one person's dinner was normal size, the rest were toddler size. I had never seen such portion served in any other restaurant in NYC. The most ridiculous was my tuna entree which consisted of 4 tiny pcs of tuna at $23. Both the Donut and Chocolate cake desserts consisted of 3 pcs each ( about the size of a quarter in diameter). I had 4 courses and needed a snack by the time I got home an hr later ( I am a 96lb petite person). Good thing my dinner guests were not hungry before dinner. To be fair, despite the tiny portions, the food tasted excellent, and the presentation was great. Decor was good and I liked the fact that it was quiet on a Sat night.
Not a good deal......that was aweful....

I couldn't believe a place like this could be operating in the city. I will give them 7 to 10 months to stay open.

Sometimes an enchanting conversation at the restaurant can change your view. Riingo is one of those. The food is really your average Fusion Japanese but just because the dialogue was intellectually stimulating, I love this place
