Just went for dinner ... my cousin and I ordered five different items and only the cheese plate was edible. I've never sent food back just because I didn't like it, so I felt horrible, but we actually could not eat our meals, they were so bad. There were no descriptions of the items, and I should have asked before ordering, but apparently they are very "untraditional" as the waitress noted. I guess "untraditional" is code for "not edible." Items ordered: carrot soup (tasted horrible), corn (a giant lump of foie gras on top for my cousin who does not eat foie gras), green beans (raw and covered in yogurt sauce and toasted sesame & salt), and scallop seviche (raw hunks of scallop drenched in jalepeno juice). One waitress had to ask twice what we ordered and was totally clueless, the second was very nice and understanding.

As a Brit this was my first time in Brooklyn and New York for that matter. This was truly the best place I dined whilst there and sealed the deal for my new found appreciation for Williamsburg...a place I had never even heard of. The service was excellent...the waitress was very helpful and truly new what she talking about when it came to the grub. The grub itself was perfection and the pork i had was cooked perfectly. The music may have been a little loud however it didn't prove a problem for our party. We found the atmosphere unpretentious and will definitely will be returning when we are next back in the city.

The food can be hit or miss (the pork chop is amazing, but the steaks are a bit blah), with the use of fresh, seasonal ingredients the strongest part of the menu. However, the prices are too high to justify going on a regular basis - it's worth a try for the innovative food, but there are better and more reliable restaurants with similar cuisine in the neighborhood (Relish for Southern Comfort food, Diner for grassfed beef and fresh ingredients, and Dumont for gourmet classics). Also, the acoustics of the high ceilings means that the evening dining chatter + blasting music = painfully loud background noise. Asking them to turn down the music is never successful. The 3 times I've gone, each of the waiters I had was almost comically hipsterish snotty and unhelpful. All in all - proceed with caution and you may be rewarded with a creatively prepared meal...

The food is overpriced across the board about 5 dollars too much, but the friendly waitstaff, creative dishes and powerful hand dryer in the front bathroom seem to soften the blow.We do visit this location often and look forward to a highly innovative menu despite the priciness. Our attraction to Roebling Tea Room is always met with a very interesting and seasonal specials menu that rarely fails to excite our imagination. Just be prepared to spend a lot. The steak was indescribably delicious!! The chicken was very good - the macaroni and cheese was...words fail me - not dry, not overly cheesy, not spicey yet not bland - it was just all wonderful. Water could have been colder. Tomato soup was great. Cheese plate was good-needs just a little more bread to go with it - I ran out. (None of the crowd you get at SEA - THANK GOD!!!! - or Planet Thai - or even Teddy's on a bad night) I loved it here - I can't wait to go back. (U know-maybe I shouldn't write this review-what if masses of people start going there & the place gets loud & crowded-HORROR!!!!!!!!)
