On a few lucky occasions I've had the opportunity to go to some of NYC's best (Per se, Eleven Madison Park, and Daniel) and Rouge Tomate within a few days or weeks of each other. Every time, Rouge Tomate has proven as good or better... and always memorable. Others have commented that the food can be bland due to a stricter focus on serving 'healthy' dishes. On the contrary, I've found their food to incredibly well balanced and true to the ingredients of the dish. I do agree that the desserts can taste a bit kashi or granola bar-esque. All in all, Rouge Tomate consistently ranks in my top 5 of New York City restaurants.

Took advantage of restaurant week to indulge in a meal I couldn't otherwise afford. Every dish had layers of flavor and texture. It felt like the best French food but somehow others flavors made the butter unnecessary. A subtle velvety parsnip soup was followed by a perfect serving of hake then a flourless chocolate torte accompanied by a yogurt hard sauce, a separate sour cherry sauce, and crisp marcona almond pieces. We tried the non-alcohol drink pairings. They were definitely an acquired taste ($15 for the three drinks). We didn't try the wine pairings, but at $20 for three glasses, it seems worth it to get an introduction to carefully chosen wines. Best of all, at the end of the meal I felt satisfied and full but not stuffed. I feel I'll wake up tomorrow without feeling I indulged to excess. Can't wait to go back as soon as I can afford it!

It was nice, for healthy food! The food was tasty, but it was not as rich and tasty as I would expect for a dining out at an amazing restaurant. I felt like I could have just chopped a bunch of vegetables up and eaten them at home. The desserts were also healthy-tasting. I might as well have eaten kashi go lean and called it a day! I will not be returning unless my doctor forces me to go on a diet.

I can safely say that this was easily the best meal I've ever eaten. Not just because of the brilliant taste - the way they perfectly poached my egg on my Market Potato and Farm Egg appetizer, the small glass of fresh apple juice used to cleanse my palette after my Lettuce and Root Vegetable Cassoulet and before my Banana Chocolate dessert - but the simple thought put into everything in this restaurant, from the interior design to the compost/ recycling system in the kitchen, makes you aware that you're not just eating dinner; you are doing something good for your health, for your local farms and the environment. The waiters are knowledgeable of the menu and of the philosophy that has built the foundation of this lovely restaurant. The dessert alone is worth the $72 prix-fixe. They also make an incredible espresso and most of the wines they offer are organic. They have a cafÃ© upstairs with cheaper Ã la carte options, though I suggest saving your money for the real deal, as I assure you, you won't regret it.
