A Perfect Lunch
By RogerD on 1/14/2003
This is my favorite place to lunch in mid-town. Few places will let your date have a steak while you have sushi, or you can share a mixed shellfish platter. When I think of Balthazar's, this is where I go instead. It's done right, with enough space between tables, and good service.
Weekend in New York Started here
By chrisleach on 1/27/2003
What a great way to start a weekend in New York, Friendly Staff Great ambience and superb food. Recommed the NY Steak. Probably one of the best I have tasted, When we come back, this will be the first place we go to.

Been to Rue 57 numerious times. It's a nice place to have dinner, from their Veal to their dessert list it's great.

Perhaps its is just being too French, or perhaps too frequently dealing with post-Iraq anti-French sentiment, or perhaps just because the front of the house is mismanaged, but no bistro has the right to treat customers with contempt. While the food and atmosphere are a true taste of Paris, the front desk and some of the wait staff represents Paris form the 70's when rudeness to patrons was in style. While a recent visit showed a marked improvement in service, there are far too many better places to spend money on decent French fare were you are treated with respect.

Interesting menu with many different international food choices. Nice outdoor seating space, with open doors throughout. Lovely salads and sandwiches. Nice for lunch or lite meals.
Dissappointed with Main Courses
By davenmare on 11/21/2003
Ambiance is great. Wine selected and beer also very good. Starter salad was very good. BUT.. ... Main courses VERY DISAPPOINTING. Saturday Special Beef Bourgignon was horrible. Meat was tender but full of fat, and the red wine sauce was watery and no sign of wine. The beef tenderloin was well overcooked - Medium/Well was over cooked and no sign of pink. If we did not have the main course, we would have given a rating of 8, but since the main course was so disappointing can give a rating no higher than 4. Would suggest they find a new Head Chef!
Great food and friendly service

I was visiting New York for the first time, on business, and Rue 57 was recommended by the hotel concierge. Great recommendation! Great experience. My server was friendly and efficient, the decor was conducive to a good dining experience, and the food was wonderful.
Favorite Restaurant in all of Manhattan!!!
By johninsocal on 7/20/2004
This place is wonderful. Our waitor was great and so friendly. Our food was perfect! I have been to elite steakhouses and restaurants, but I find Rue 57 to be the best. Although it was my first time to Manhattan, I can honestly say that you'll never find a better restaurant. Jonathan, you rule!!! (Our waitor) :-)
