Consistently good French bistro

I visited this place 5 times during my month long stay nearby. As a single diner it's common to be given shortshrift by staff but the staff here always make you feel welcome and valued and they were attentive from start to finish. Cocktails at the bar and dinner on the terrace (steak frites) was good quality and well executed. Numerous breakfasts and brunches here included delicious omelets, very special eggs florentine and french toast with strawberries. The fresh orange juice is wonderful. The cafe latte (espresso) needs work - they need an Italian barista! The place was always buzzing whenever I walked past both weekday and weekend. I've read some bad reviews on here but I honestly can't say I've had similar experiences. I saw the owner visiting the premises and giving constructive criticism re the food, staff and premises - always a good sign.

MY friends and I went there for brunch to celebrate this past weekend and we were treated like absolute trash by the manager, DAVID. He was so demeaning and refused to seat us because we looked Middle Eastern. He yelled at us in front of the entire restaurant and threatened to throw us out because we chose to wait for an outside table and he did not want to seat us there. The food was forgettable and the service was appalling. I will never go back. I have never been this humiliated. I cannot believe they would treat customers this way!!

Overall it has a very nice feel inside with the exception that it is a bit noisy. Sit downstairs if you do go if possible. The food is good and we had nothing to really complain about. Now I'll cut to the chase....the management does not know how to handle a problem properly. When one of our 4 guests dinner was not brought out until 25 minutes after the 3 others had finished eating; they made no fuss about it at all. I complained to the first manager with no luck and then to the second with similar results except for an insincere, rushed attempt at an apology + a glass of wine on the house. Now I know why my father says to stay away from the tourist trap restaurants!

Went to dinner here on a weekday, no reservations, but was seated promptly. Hostess was extremely nice asking us how our day went. Waiter was extremely nice. Meal was served quickly and service was excellent. Delicious food.

If you want an overpriced meal followed by getting your purse stolen, then this is the restaurant for you. Horrible service. We asked the rude Hostess who sat us if they had a bag check. She said no. Less than half an hour later, my purse was stolen. The Manager was unbelievably unhelpful. There is nothing about this restaurant I would recommend.

The worst service I have ever encountered. Save your time and money. When I tried to discuss the poor service with the manager he replied "It is good that we know". Well, it is good that I know now. I will never go back. I travel frequently and I am embarrassed that service like this exists in my home town.

This is a fun place with a fun and varied menu that has a little for everyone. Staff is great and helpful. Food is well prepared and quickly served. This is a very relaxed atmosphere that begs for you to stay and enjoy another glass of wine. Will be back again, and again.

The first time I went to Rue 57 I remember looking at the varied menu (sushi, sandwiches, burgers, eggs, smoked salmon & capers)and thinking: "The food will be terrible. The menu is too eclectic." Happily, I was proved wrong. The fare is consistantly good, the service reliable and the prices very reasonable for Manhattan. This combined with a lively bar, and outdoor dining when weather permits, make Rue 57 a fine choice for lunch or dinner.

This is my favorite place in the whole world. The service is great, the staff are so lovely and helpfull and the food is always delicous. Congratulations Rue 57, you have have my definate vote.
