Food is not authentic and the staff is rude beyond belief. Save yourself the grief and skip this restaurant.

Normally, I am not one to be mean-spirited, but this pathetic so-called "Vietnamese" restaurant has gotta rate at the very bottom of my gastronomic experiences. The food, if you can call it that, was a sad attempt at distinction using a bland Cantonese fast food formula. As one who has traveled extensively throughout South-East Asia, I found NOTHING at the Saigon Grill to remind me of anything Vietnamese. Their copious use of peanut sauce and coconut meat makes a mockery of true SEA Cuisine. BTW, I'm not posting the above as a way of hurting the owners for their treatment of their employees; the fact is...this place is a fraud, as are most so-called Vietnamese restaurants in the USA. It’s just that I expected better from the UWS!

please see NYT article from dec 10, 2008 or http://nymag.com/daily/food/2008/10/saigon_grill_workers_get_46_mi.html this restaurant exploits foreign workers and doesn't pay taxes. they do not deserve your support. please, people! use your lunch money to support legitimate businesses that pay a living wage and pay sales, payroll, and income taxes. if you put any money towards a meal at Saigon grill you are a part of the problem.

Still closed and has been closed for awhile (about 3 years or so). This was my favorite Saigon Grill. Oh well.

in '05... when i lived on 88th & 3rd, i frequented the 88th & 2nd locale... but since that's been under construction for a while now, i've had to trek it to 90th & amsterdam to get my fix... all the way from my new place on 50th & 1st, no less... their lunch special is wonderfully priced, and the food is mighty plentiful... i usually end up eating left-overs the next day... i always order the chicken bun xao... aka, stir-fried noodles with steamed chicken... i also get the beef com chien... aka, beef fried-rice... and a side of their wonderful cha gio... aka, spring rolls... i wash it all down with ginger iced tea, which has a great kick to it... that's four items for less than $20!... what a deal, and well worth the cross-town travel.
