superb small plates

The UWS needs this elegant little salumeria. The selection of cured meats is impeccable; everything we tried was good, and many of the small dishes (stracotto con polenta and a salad with pancetta and eggs, for example)--were truly excellent.
Great Italian tapas

We really enjoyed our lunch at this small Italian tapas restaurant. The food was really good (try the lasagna!). The salami plate is also delicious. Service was perfect and decor is really nice.
Decent, but NOT authentic, and definitely OVERPRICED

This place is decent. The food is pretty good, but the "small" plates are actually miniscule. Some of these plates are literally 2-bit plates. This place is ridiculously overpriced, and it gets away with it because (1) they had a precocious adolescent review it, and (2) they say it's authentic. If you really need authentic Italian food in the UWS, go to Celeste instead (a much better value and actually owned by an Italian) or try Nonna (solid Italian food and big portions). I don't begrudge spending money on good food, but I felt totally ripped off when I left this gimmicky place.

After reading reviews on this website, and ogling the adjective heavy menu online, we went to Salumeria Rosi hoping for an experience of thoughtful and diverse Italian cuisine. What we got wasn't bad, but it certainly wasn't something that couldn't have been made at home in greater quantity for considerably less money. As previously mentioned, the portions are verging on stingy, and most of the flavors were predictable (sweet tomato sauce and parmigiana). 'ino, among others, remains a more exciting destination for Italian flavors, with a more diverse and inexpensive wine list and a better atmosphere.
Eye candy, tongue teaser

I must have walked by this little place thirty times before I convinced myself to try to get a table as it was always crowded. Amazingly I didn't have to wait to get stuffed at the short barely-fits-three bar where I banged my knee against the slab of marble the entire time. But about the food; it was delicious. The flavors came together well, yet took a long time for such small portions. The smiles from all the servers, bartender and host helped soften the blow printed on the check. I think I will keep walking by this place and let the sparkling display tease me.
Don't listen to these negative reviewers, this place is great!

My girlfriend and I ate at Salumeria two weeks ago and it was fantastic. The wine list is great and offers quite a few reasonably priced options. We stared at the menu a little too long because there were a lot of very interesting items. The cured meat selection was probably my favorite. We started with some of that and a few different cheeses and then sampled a few of the large plates. Service was excellent even for a crowded Saturday night. Try this place if you're in the neighborhood and in the mood for something different.

I thought it was a great idea to take my European parents (my dad is part Italian) to this restaurant. What a mistake I made.... Not only we ate good food only (but nothing like whaooo), we left with a half empty stomach and the bill was so overpriced that we all left mad!!! My dad was talking about the bill and the too small portions weeks later... They serve the smallest tapas size ever! The Gnocchi plate is maybe a fourth of a regular size entrÃ©e and the price (11 dollars) can be translated to 44 dollars a regular size plate! The service was not great either... overwhelmed waiters (with so many little dishes to serve!) that they kept forgetting the bread, the water... Also do not seat outside you would have no room to move.... JUST AVOID THIS RESTAURANT!! A rip off! There are way better Italian restaurants in the City for half the price.
Very cool concept, great meats, very tiny servings

The all the meat sauces are fantastic, you can tell they specialise in this area of cuisine. I thought this place was half small plates and half actual entrees but was mistaken. The lasagna (which was phenominal) and other pasta dishes are all about appetizer size. I would recommend a visit here as long as you are not too hungry or are willing to shell out a lot of $ to order what amounts to a proper sized meal. Service is great and wine by the glass is reasonable. Great decor inside. Reservations seem like a must on weekends, we got a table outside right away but only because it was a chilly evening.
This place is a joke. Infants would not be satiated with these portions.

Don't waste your time or money. The portions are so small that I can't imagine anyone dining here would not be absolutely infuriated by the price/portion ratio. Also, please do not shrug this off as me being ignorant and not knowing what tapas means. I LOVE tapas-style dining. The cheese/meat plate was unforgivable. The amount of cheese received for $18 included these teeny, tiny, thin little slices of cheese that were smaller than the size of half of a business card. I know it looks cute and sounds like a great idea, but it falls extremely short on everything. Service was not great either. There is no reason to go here.
