That has to be the worst food for the money I have ever experienced. I don't know how they have been in business for as long as they have. They aren't bashful about what they charge, but the should be embarrassed about what they serve. Someone should introduce the cook to a new thing they have now called spices, and FAT is not a spice!

The last reviewer either wasn't Jewish or can't appreciate the worldly culinary delights of 20th century Eastern Europe. If you are a heathy eater - DO NOT go here. But if you are willing to spare some calories on incredible food - this is your place. This restaurant is an eyesore, but that's just part of the kitch. The experience just wouldn't be the same without the simple atmosphere, dreg on the walls, "bar mitzvah" musician and close quarters. The food is excellent and harkens back to my childhood and family gatherings. Favorite dishes - tenderloin (aka skirt steak), chopped liver, potato pancakes, stuffed cabbage, kishka, warm rugelach, and to wash it all down - egg creams made at the table. Go and enjoy a fabulous expereince that will remind you of times past and family no longer with us. (But leave calorie counters at home.)

Food out of this planet... If you want to feel at home this is the place... great atmosphere.... Nice jewish music.... Great service... Decor is not so trendy but who cares... a little expensive but portions are big and excellent

The food is very good, but the real reason to go here is to celebrate life with friends. Drink frozen vodka, eat steak, and be happy. Come and sing, eat and enjoy.

Absolutely CRIMINAL! Was there recently for a friend's birthday party and ended up COMPLETELY overpaying for food that was OK at best. They actually have the audacity to charge you a COVER charge per person (yes, a cover charge, have never heard of this at a restaurant, plus a 20% gratuity), charge you 6 dollars for every flask of CRANBERRY JUICE placed on the table, 6 dollars for every flask of SELTZER they place on the table, and 20 dollars for 6 rugala's that weren't even ordered (they were for the birthday boy with a candle stuck in them-they took those off the bill thank goodness). Yes, it is an experience for someone who hasn't had jewish food and watching people dance was fun but overall the place is a COMPLETE rip off.

This is the worst food I have ever eaten. Cup of chicken noodle soup was about 6 dollars and there was no chicken in it. Couple people in our group ordered steaks and they were tasteless. And this is a famous stake house? Fried potato pancakes had absolute no flavor; it was like chewing a sock. Sliced potatoes were lacking taste as well, fast food fries taste better! Overall a huge disappointment and total waste of money. I am still in disbelief how BAD THE FOOD WAS!

If you appreciate Jewish Eastern European food this is one of the last places you can get it. When I am in Manhattan I always visit Sammy's. The people who gave it bad reviews did not have Jewish mothers that cooked for them. The food is just the way my Mon used to make it. Everything I have had there was great. I am 6' 2" and 250 lbs and I was raised on this kind of food. It is not Italian or French it is Jewish food so don't expect it to taste like French of Italian cuisine. The people who said they did not like the food have probably never had real Jewish non-deli food like Mom would make every day. This is the real thing. I wish I could eat there more often.

We have eaten at Sammy's six times over the last few years. Every waiter we have had was polite, took time to explain the food options and seemed to really enjoy his job. He laughed and kidded with us. On a Saturday night they were very busy but we still got good service and good food. I can't wait to go back when next we are in town.

I cannot understand some of the negative reviews . I have been there many times and it is a treat . A tribute to Jewish cooking and I love the staff . The owners son is a delight and he treats his customers like family . Some of the wait staff are professional entertainers and put on a show with dinner . I love the stuffed cabbage and chopped liver .
