Been to Rome several times, and fell in love with the fried artichokes and buccatini amatriciana. Amatriciana appears vey seldom on most Italian menus in the USA, luckilly, because of them are terrible, UNTIL, last night when we ate at SANDRO'S. We had an amazing dinner! My husband and I had a business appointment uptown late in the afternoon, we had not eaten all day, and it was almost 5, late lunch in Europe or, unheard of, early dinner in NYC. I checked my Zagats and saw Sandro's a block away and it said the restaurant was in the Roman style, checked the menu on line and saw my favorites. My mouth was watering, but I was fully prepared to be dissappointed! Not so! First the host Giovanni, was engaging, delightful, and welcoming. The room cozy and all of the staff, friendly and attentive. The food was not just Italian, but really was representative of the classic Roman dishes, simple and simply superb! The fried artichokes were so delicious and ample that they could have been a meal! The buccatini amaticiana literally transported me to Rome. My husband had the classic ceasar, perfect, and spaghetti with baby octopus, again simple, delicious! Desert was fruit with a warm balsamic dressing and sherbert, unusual, but so lovely, that we ate every drop of it! I was drinking wine by the glass, an Italian Chardonnay, huge glass, very reasonably priced, he had a mixed drink and Italian beer, again, very reasonably priced. I can't wait to go back and bring friends!

This place is great. I've been to NY's best Italian and THIS is it.

I feel bad writing such a good review. I'm scared I won't be able to get in. The food is amazing. Who knew one of NY's best Italian was right around the corner.

Ate here with a group of 11. Easily handled by the waitstaff, no issues with service at all. Plates ordered off the menu were fresh and full of flavor. Specials were unique and surprising. Sandro himself will come out to make sure everyone looks satisfied - gave me another helping of the entree out of the blue (and this was my first time there, so it's not like I was a regular). And he is clearly someone who enjoys sampling the work. Most of the Italian restaurants I've been to fail to impress. Sandro's renewed my belief in Italian cooking. Cozy space. One of our best dining experiences in Manhattan.

I've been to Sandro's three times in the last three weeks and plan to keep returning on, hopefully, as regular a basis. It has quickly become my favorite place in the city - I forget I'm in New York and feel transported to Italy as soon as I walk in. The wait staff and Sandro himself are wonderfully hospitable, and the food is the most authentic I've had outside of Rome. It has been packed every time I've been, all on weeknights, which is particularly impressive given both the fact that it is August and that restaurants, unless top notch, tend to be struggling right now. It is simply a wonderful experience that cannot be recommended highly enough.

Just came back from a long weekend in the City and had dinner at Sandro's and it was wonderful. From the crisp white interior, the welcoming service and the best al dente pasta ever, our meal was more then we ever expected. Our concierge was pleasantly surprised when we told him we had eaten there and it kicked us up a couple of notches. Will defintiely go again on our next visit.
