My wife and I first went to Saul 6 years ago and have been visiting every once in a while. Every time we have gone, the food has been consistently fabulous. The size and decor make it an intimate affair worthy of a first date to a first wedding anniversary. Most of the time the staff has been warm and welcoming save one time where we felt a little "talked down" to. It can be a tad pricey, but not obnoxiously so. Certainly not as pricey as some of the Manhattan restaurants which are of it's equal. Saul is our favorite restaurant in the Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill/Boerum Hill area.

I went for the firsttime on a romantic dinner for 2 and was very impressed by the decor and the atmosphere. Nice to be able to speak to your date in the restaurant without screamming or listening to other converstations. BUT....this was only superseeded by the aromas and taste of the food. I was quite impressed by the display, smell and then taste. Portions were very good(considering my date and I were full before dessert). We decide to get the souffle with a red wine/cherry ice cream that they make. My goodness we were to the point of licking the plate. If you want to impress anyone, even yourself, take them here. Enjoy !

You want food to bring you to the verge of tears - because it is so good and not because it will cost you a mortgage? this is your place. Comfortable settings laced by knowledgeable, attentive service, and topped off with a nice wine selection at price points that want to make you drink more, round out the food that made me swoon.

One of my top meals in New York. This is by far the best restaurant in Brooklyn! This gem deserves all the attention on Smith Street. Owner/Chef Saul creates the most savory and flavorful entrees I've ever had. He is a master with meat, the veal stew was amazing and my wife had the trout which was superb. I had the best mussels I've ever had, I felt like I was back in France! The desserts are wonderfully crafted and delicious. The tasting menu is such a deal and the wine list is impressive for a small restaurant. The decor is simple, cozy and romantic. You're cheating yourself if you don't give this great restaurant a try!

We went for the Valentine's Day prix fix...such wonderful wonderful food...it was too bad that service was not friendly nor professional. We were rushed through dinner (as soon as we put our forks down, the next course would arrive). Our memories of the evening were of the dissatisfaction with the service rather than the amazing food we had eaten. We'll go back in the hopes that it was a Valentine's night issue - the food was too good to not try this one again!

...I had a really bad dinner here about a year ago. I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and try again since it's got such a reputation, but I was shocked -- shocked! -- at the poor quality of my meal. Was it a fluke? Or is this place overrated?
