we had a great time at savarona!! the decor is absolutely beautiful - simple, warm, and rich, without being gaudy at all. and the food was delicious!!! the best of turkish cuisine. the waitstaff was also very warm and welcoming...and brought us free dessert and turkish coffee! it's recently opened, so they are working out some kinks, but overall, a great experience. and much needed in this neighborhood!

You finally arrive at Savarona, farther east than anyone should have to go in Midtown, and you are expecting great things. The space if large (one perk of setting up shop by so far east), and the decor is golden, pretty. You have a reservation, and there are empty tables, but *your* table is not ready. You sit and wait at the bar for 20 minutes until hunger forces you to flag down the hostess. You sit down. . . And you wait. . . And wait. . . For your lukewarm, minimally-spiced Sultan Kebab; for your so-so whitefish. For your under-done (but actually tasty) souffle. Your waitress has trouble explaining what the duck appetizer on the menu is. It comes out; it is a duck spring roll. You leave, finally, $70/person the poorer. Being so far east, you have trouble finding a cab. You rather wonder why you bothered. The place has potential--but you were talking about its performance.
