... in the very best sense of the term. Seppi's is only three-plus years old, but looks like it's been a neighborhood fixture for decades. Indeed, it does attract a neighborhood crowd who contentedly mix with - and are often intrigued by - the guests of the adjoining Le Parker Meridien hotel. And due to the proximity of Carnegie Hall, City Center and a number of recording studios, the celebrity citing can be good. Yes, that is Yo-Yo Ma pouring wine for his friends and that's Billy Joel at the bar. The fact that the eclectic menu is available until 2 a.m. is another draw. Don't miss the tarte flambess, a.k.a. thin crust Alsatian pizza. Steak au poivre rocks too and is a great value. And when His Honorable Irishness, Patrick, is behind the handsome deco bar, conviviality and conversation reign all night.

A perfect Alsace cuisine bistro located next to the Parker Le Meridien Hotel. The food is very good, and the atmosphere is like being in Colmar enjoying Franco-German cuisine (and in this case with a little Italian additions). Improvements in the service would improve the repeat business. A small Southern exposure patio dinning area brightens the otherwise dark interior.

I found a restaurant that brings the Village to me (instead of me having to trapse down there). It is by Carnegie Hall and the City Theatre. Great Steak au Poivre and excellent house wines. Come the warmer weather you can sit outside and watch all the hotel people next door go in and out. It is a little Italian, a little French, a little Swiss - in other words, it is unique. Claude, the Chef/Owner is really sweet and makes a great tarte flambee. I really like the old world charm of this place and the service was good too. Go for drinks at the bar, but don't throw anything in the fish tank (I found out they don't like it when you do that!)

I live in midtown, love the downtown restaurant scene, and now have it right around the corner. Seppi's is the kind of restaurant that you can eat at 3 or 4 times a week. You can go on a romantic date, or with a group of friends. It is completely unpretentious, yet the food is outrageous. My favorites are the Steak au Poivre and the Osso Bucco. To start with the escargot are amazing as is the artichoke. The prices are very reasonable, and they are open really late every day. You'll love the charming atmosphere and great food.
