Broadway blackout sundae all the way!
By cb85 on 9/21/2011
If you go during an off time (if you can find one) this place is not so bad. Ordinarily the service stinks/is super snotty, waiting three hours for ice cream isn't worth it and the place is run down. But at a quiet moment you can appreciate the heaps of ice cream and a more laid-back staff. All of a sudden the place looks quirky and lived-in, not falling apart. The Broadway blackout sundae (ice cream, hot fudge, chocolate cake with chocolate chips baked in) is so great it's almost worth the ordeal. A classic favorite worth a visit if you can avoid the crowds.

Unusual is an understatement.Walk down a few steps and you are in Never-Never Land...A general store, and ice cream parlor,(try the Frozen Hot Chocolate!..The what!!!??)This is a burger place,a cheeesecake like almost no other place, a fun place.Faux Tiffany lamps, mirrors, Old-Fashioned marble and metal tables, cane back chairs. Its like being in Fairyland!!.Bring the kids, and the child within you!!.Cher does!!.

I had to try this place the summer after moving to NY from Iowa -- it's Serendipity after all! I was by myself so I was seated right away, but I sure felt sorry for the poor shmucks agreeing to 2+ hr. waits. Came expressly for the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate which did not disappoint; super yummy! But ordered the Caviar Burger to start b/c it sounded interesting; I really wanted to like it but it was really just average and $12 to boot! The service was so accomodating and lovely though. You MUST go at least once and endure the heinousness for the Frrozen Hot Chocolate treat.
This is a must-see!

This place is fabulous! Fun, funky, friendly, quirky, very unique! The peanut butter frozen hot chocolate is out-of-this-world! The prices are a little high, but it doesn't seem to matter to most folks. We arrived for lunch at 11:30 on a Friday and were seated right away but, by the time we left an hour later, there was a line of people out the door clamoring to get in! I'll be back and I'll be bringing lots of friends!
Very cute and fun

The decor was oh so cute! It was like going to an old time parlor. The food was delicious, and there was plenty!!!! they have huuuge servings. It's a very cute place to go for desert. The wait is pretty long, we waited about an hour and a half, but it went by fast and gave us time to walk around the streets for a few minutes. Definatly worth going to!
We needed to go once!

Ok, the frozen hot chocolate is really quite good. The wait was reported to be 45 minutes but we were in within 30 minutes. Our server was a hoot! The chocolate layer cake was delicious as well. The place is cramped and there's very little room to wait- so we waited outside for 20 minutes. Depending on the weather, that's not so easy. It's fun to go one time. I don't know that it would be necessary to go back again.
One of my favorite NYC places!

I'm surprised to read the negative reviews on here and sorry some people had bad experiences! When I went, we got the exact table we requested immediately and were asked for our orders (of course 2 frozen hot chocolates! but we'll get to that later) and had the nicest waiter ever. He requested we get an app to help us with the subways and told us all about new york; where he lives, where we should go, etc etc. he was so happy and fun and perfect. I think he was gay but otherwise I would've had a huge crush on him haha. I loved how much he contributed to our experience. He made the trip so fun just by being nice and giving us advice. Also, the sandwich I had was amazing and the frozen hot chocolate was to die for. I can't imagine going to nyc without going to serendipity! I'm so sorry for those that had bad experiences because I had an amazing one. My screensaver is a picture of us there and it has been for the past few months. Every time I think of this place it brings back great memories and I'm so glad I went! I hope when I go back the same waiter is there because whether you have a good waiter really makes or brakes the experience and ours was excellent. I recommend this place for anyone who likes to have a good meal and see a new place. the interior is so interesting, you don't run out of things to look at and I definitely felt like I was having a tea party at the mad hatters or something haha...just perfect. :)
