C'mon, it's an institution!

I had to try this place the summer after moving to NY from Iowa -- it's Serendipity after all! I was by myself so I was seated right away, but I sure felt sorry for the poor shmucks agreeing to 2+ hr. waits. Came expressly for the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate which did not disappoint; super yummy! But ordered the Caviar Burger to start b/c it sounded interesting; I really wanted to like it but it was really just average and $12 to boot! The service was so accomodating and lovely though. You MUST go at least once and endure the heinousness for the Frrozen Hot Chocolate treat.
Doesn't live up to the hype

I went with my boyfriend a few weeks ago on a weekday and was seated immediately. We ordered the Frrrozen Hot Chocolate to see what all the hype was about. It was not worth the $8 we paid. I thought I could've made it on my own with hot chocolate mix, cream, milk and chocolate bits. When I saw the Serendipity recipe book in the library, the recipe was as I imagined. However service was good and rather quick.
Was not impressed!

First I'd like to start off with the wait, 2hrs on a weekday, but I didn't care after all there was a huge hype about this place. When we finally sat down, they stuffed us upstairs where you can barely breath (it was so stuffy) service was HORRIBLE with a capital H, ordered sodas never got them, food came quick but my chili was cold, didn't eat but 4 spoonfuls, then ordered this "FROZEN HOT CHOCOLATE", nothing but a chocolate milkshake, and the whipcream was TASTELESS, didn't finish that either, I didn't care about the price, cause I will pay for quality but it wasn't there..now I am not picky at all so for me to say this it is HUGE..I will never go back and I would like to also say they need to get more pleasant employees..

The atmosphere from the bathroom to the menus and tiffany lamps is unique and enjoyable. The place is cozy and crowded, so not a place to go if you are looking for a quiet environment. If you are going for taste or service you may be disappointed. I have been five times and each time wasn't too impressed. My friends and I have had the Frozen Hot Chocolate, which is tasty, but nothing special. Compare it to a Wendy's Frosty. Last night I went for an Oreo Express and knew it was my last time. I had three drinks of sour-tasting ice cream and the rest was whipped cream. I have never sent food back in my life, but felt this deserved attention. Laughingly, I asked the waiter if he knew that it was only half full of ice cream. He disagreed and got the manager. The manager said he knew it was made correctly and I was "ridiculous" and "he couldn't believe me," rolled his eyes and walked off. He came back and slammed the check on the table. My friends and I sat with our mouths hanging open in shock.
Very cute and fun

The decor was oh so cute! It was like going to an old time parlor. The food was delicious, and there was plenty!!!! they have huuuge servings. It's a very cute place to go for desert. The wait is pretty long, we waited about an hour and a half, but it went by fast and gave us time to walk around the streets for a few minutes. Definatly worth going to!

Unusual is an understatement.Walk down a few steps and you are in Never-Never Land...A general store, and ice cream parlor,(try the Frozen Hot Chocolate!..The what!!!??)This is a burger place,a cheeesecake like almost no other place, a fun place.Faux Tiffany lamps, mirrors, Old-Fashioned marble and metal tables, cane back chairs. Its like being in Fairyland!!.Bring the kids, and the child within you!!.Cher does!!.

This place is fabulous! Fun, funky, friendly, quirky, very unique! The peanut butter frozen hot chocolate is out-of-this-world! The prices are a little high, but it doesn't seem to matter to most folks. We arrived for lunch at 11:30 on a Friday and were seated right away but, by the time we left an hour later, there was a line of people out the door clamoring to get in! I'll be back and I'll be bringing lots of friends!
