Rare NYC Gem

I eat at Sezz Medi' on a weekly basis and I can say, unequivocally, that this restaurant is a rare find in all of New York. Neapolitan born chef and owner, Angelo Sessa, brings some significant pedigree to the kitchen (formerly of Le Madri) and loads of infectious charm to the dining room and large private party room. The wood-fired brick oven is the star of the show here, churning out charred and slightly chewy authentic thin-crust pizzas, delicious toasty panuzzi sandwiches and even stuffed sweet ricotta and Nutella calzones. Do not overlook the chef's daily specials including flavorful and healthful soups, luscious salads with just the right amount of acidity, creamy al dente risottos and creative seasonal main courses. My personal favorite combo is the endive salad with pears, pecorino, chives and walnuts followed by the parmigiana eggplant tegamino, with basil, San Marzano tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs....Passersby will love Sezz' warm weather sidewalk food cart, selling for mere dollars fabulous individual pizzas, arrancini (risotto balls) and potato croquettes. This restaurant is a fantastic value, so even if you're not a neighborhood resident, visit Sezz Medi'. Once you get a taste of the food, you'll be back.

The Cornerstone of Italian Cuisine on the Upper West Side

I've lived in Morningside for the last 15 years or so, and of all of the restaurants I have tried (and I've had just about all of them), this is without a doubt the best in the area. Having been a regular customer for last few years I've sampled just about everything the menu has to offer. The pizza is fantastic and is just as good as anything you'll find at a place like Motorino or even anything you can find in Italy. Truly authentic. The pasta dishes are equally delicious, especially the rigatoni with the sausage, beans, and escarole. Admittedly the service can be spotty at times, but don't let that dissuade you, it's well worth it. Sezz is a rare treat.

Great brick oven pizza, interesting menu

I like the menu here because it has a nice combination of creative and standard dishes to satisfy just about anyone. The pizza here is really great, made with just enough of the freshest ingredients to satisfy without overwhelming. The pizza is better if you dine in, because the delivery pizza can get a little soggy. The home fried potatoes are pretty awful, though; they taste like they're made from frozen and are invariably soggy and oversalted. Service is fairly prompt and the atmosphere is nice.
