Let me start this review with warning to anyone planning to visit this restaurant. Everything about it was terrible- the service rude and unhelpful, the food overcooked and greasy and the decoration shabby and tacky. I read a few positive reviews on this website but they can only have been written by either the manager of the restaurant or by people who haven't tasted real chinese food. We ordered dumplings, lamb, duck and vegetables and the food became more vile with every course. The manager was clearly trying to turn over as many tables as possible and we got stuck with a bill for $150 for two people. If you want great chinese food go to Chinatown Brasserie or try Chin Chin in midtown. I want my money back!!!

My wife and I were looking for a good Chinese dinner before getting to the theater and we found it. We have had Chinese food around the world and this was one of the best. The service was quick and always there when needed but provided the space for my wife and I to talk.

This is a very ordinary chinese restaurant offering good service and very ordinary and overpriced food. Go right to Chinatown and have the real thing!

All I really need to say is the food was absolutely delicious. In addition, the atmosphere was calm and relaxed and the service was very respectable. I eat take-out Chinese food regularly, and Shun Lee Palace was my first experience with upscale Chinese food. I was more than pleased with the quality and the taste of the food. With friends I split the Beijing Duck and the Crispy Sea Bass, both excellent choices. I'll return to Shun Lee Palace soon, and would recommend it to anyone who wants great Chinese food and is willing to pay a little extra for it.

Where else would you go for dinner on Christmas? Shun Lee has been serving creative Chinese food in a deluxe dining room for 30 years--they must be doing something right! The experience was heightened by attentive waitstaff in formal uniforms, authentic ivory chopsticks, real silverware replaced often, artfully carved vegetables and fruits in animal and bird shapes, a gregarious and happy mixed group of diners from shopping moms with polite children to beaming lovers at corner tables. Food also impresses (especially Peking duck and, believe it or not, their Tiramisu dessert!)

For the price, I was expecting much more from the cuisine. At the end of the day, it's just expensive Chinese food. If you really MUST go, try the lunch prix fixe, at $20 it's actually a bargain compared to their regular prices. Just remember that for the same price you could have gone to Aureole!

This old guard Chinese establishment is living on past glories. From a 50's Chinese restaurant decor, to a wait staff that is down right surly, this is no pleasure palace.

so expensive and this resteraunt is nothing more than an ok NY chinese that is served to you out of silver trays and presented by waiters in a bowtie. Doesnt even compare to a Mr. K's or Mr.Chow's, or even a 66 for that matter. Truly a bad experience all around.

This is one of the few upscale, linen-tablecloths, etc. where you can get extremely wonderful Chinese food. They've recently added vegetable sculptures to the presentation, so you may have a duck cut out of root vegetable to adorn your food. Don't miss the appetizer scallops, the spare ribs, the fried rice, the ants on trees. They have lamb dishes and others you never seen in Chinese restaurants, all prepared exceptionally well. There is a full bar and good drinks. Everyone we've taken to any of the Shun Lee restaurants has wanted to return. Figure on $50 or more per person.
