a good restaurant for midtown

I've eaten at Sip-Sak three times over the past year and have always had a tasty and pleasant meal - I find it somewhat hard to believe the rest of the reviews on this page unless there was a different owner previously, or as the review below states, someone with some ulterior motive was spamming the reviews. (I'd check out yelp.com where Sip Sak has a solid 4 stars from 45 reviewers). We've had good service every time and the food has always been excellent, even after a menu change. The ingredients are fresh and the food is somewhat innovatively and well-presented, which is a nice change from more casual Turkish eateries. Definitely one of the better restaurants in this area, could compete in the more restaurant-heavy areas of the city (e.g. e/w village). I plan to go there next week and if anything has changed will update this review, but in the mean time, I highly recommend Sip Sak.

I think the previous reviews must have been spam from a competitor, because I eat at Sip Sak regularly and have always been treated well by the owner. Once in a while one of the members of the waitstaff will be a little brusque, which I do find annoying. But whenever he's there, the owner is very nice. More importantly: the food is wonderful. All of the appetizers are delicious, but the ezme and the hummus are especially good. As far as entrees, the nymag writer has it right-- you really can't go wrong with anything involving lamb. Their other meat dishes are ok, and they have good fish, but the lamb dishes are always perfect. I do think it's a good value, too. Not the cheapest place ever, but the portions are generous. And the to-go menu is a little cheaper. Try it! I've taken lots of people there, and they've all enjoyed it.

The owner is such a nightmare. I refuse to EVER go back there he was so incredibly rude, and literally yelled at us for asking for more water.food it was cold and service very bad. If you want a good Turkish meal, stroll 2 blocks North to Taksim. It is well worth it, and you will never return.

The worst Turkish restaurant I've been to in the US. The mezes had waitied around forever and the hot entrees were nothing special. and service very bad NO TASTY ALL

I went to Sip Sak for a casual diner , what a BIG mistake! The portions are small, the food is pre-cooked, the staff is rude and the "owner" is a nasty little bald man with fewer manners than a prison’s cook. He was screaming to the staff when we arrived, then half way our meal he engaged in a very loud and rude argument with a customer sitting next to us... We ate in fear, fast, paid, and left without looking

owner was talking too badly we dont want to hear about his voice next time we dont like stories and bad words when we were eating his food is getting badky tnks and food ,service not to good
