My daughter and I were on an extended weekend mother/daughter getaway from Michigan over the July 4th, 2008. We were strolling around the neighborhood, and happened to come across S'MAC around lunchtime. We stopped in for a bite, and we had the MOST INCREDIBLE time. The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere was just perfect for a little lunchtime getaway. My daughter and I travel extensively, and this place is just a gem that we still keep talking about to our friends. We can't wait to get back to the city (we're coming for holiday shopping next month), and S'MAC is one of our top destinations for our trip. We can't wait!!

The nicest Macaronni and Cheese I have ever tasted. Easily. Yes it is a small place, but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in quality of food and price. Just a fantastic place and a must-do...

I like this place, and I would like it more if there were more tables and more walking room. This is the gold standard of mac and cheese. Many varieties of cheese, many varieties of "mix-ins", and it comes out warm and bubbly in an iron skillet. This is the way it is supposed to be.

Went to 'SMAC with the family over the Christmas Holidays. We arrived at noon and managed to snag the only open table at this tiny place. We were lucky: within 15 minutes there was a line out the door. My wife and daughters ordered the All American and I ordered the Gruyere and Slab Bacon. Each order is served bubbling in a cast iron skillet and is offered in three sizes... Believe me, the medium is enough even for the heartiest appetite. My Gruyere and Bacon was incredible, the best mac & cheese I've ever had. I sampled my wife's All American and it was just like Mom used to make, only better (sorry, Mom). One word of caution: the mac & cheese is cooked right in the skillets, so when they come to the table they're oven-hot. This can be dangerous for small children. My wife and I played it safe by portioning out our kids' meals into styrofoam "to-go" containers and having them eat from those while we placed their skillets at a safe distance. We had a good time and an awesome meal at an affordable price.

Went to try S'Mac and nearly walked out. 40 minutes after we ordered, well after several other groups who had arrived after us had been served, we finally got our mac and cheese. Staff was surly and incompetent, downright rude when we had to check on the status of our order a second time. The food was okay, but it takes about fifteen minutes to put together better mac and cheese at home, and this place is way overpriced! Never again will I return, despite its adorable decor and the fact that it is just five minutes from my apartment. There are plenty of other eateries nearby with better service and without all the hipster attitude.
