The front of this restaurant is unassuming, though clustered amid Camaje and Villa Mosconi it's got good neighbors. Once you notice it, the next thing you discover is the bar is hidden all the way in the back and it's super cozy and yet hip at the same time. We enjoyed a sweet pea risotto as well as an arrabiata pasta to start, and then had a very tasty salmon entree and my friends both ordered the steak which was flavorful and perfectly cooked. The only real knock I could come up with is that the wine list is a little pricey for the quality, but it could just be that we made a bad pick. I will definitely be back.

Great service (even when it was our fault), and great food

Had a great experience at Smith’s over the weekend. In short I found the service refreshingly accommodating and the food quite inventive. A friend was arriving into town after our scheduled reservation so we decided to decrease the party by 1. She then arrived to the restaurant late and the host was more than gracious in reseating us at our original party size. I was quite impressed there wasn’t more of an issue, and I apologized profusely for mangling the situation on our side. The food, again, was fantastic. We ordered the two different egg appetizers (truffled deviled eggs and the steamed egg with polenta) – I normally wouldn’t order an egg appetizer but these two were fantastic. Scallops and panna cotta were also great. Many thanks to the restaurant for making the evening enjoyable for my and my guests.

This joyful bustling restaurant is a gem planted on an unexpected strip of MacDougal alongside kitschy Italian and NYU-friendly restaurants in the vicinity. First of all, reservations are highly recommended since it's a relatively small place. Once you've got that covered, you can't complain about the wait. Definitely start with an order of their divine deviled eggs, garnished elegantly with a crispy Parmesan tuile and sprig of micro-arugula. I can see why they won the honor of Best Deviled Eggs, but why aren't they listed on the menu? I had bites of the Charred Cape Cod Baby Squid, Grilled Portugese Sardines, and the Grilled Ribeye Steak. All were delicious. This is a great place for a date or dinner with friends. There's a plush intimate bar room in the back that I'd be curious to check out sometime...

The food was terrifc and the service was really attentive. It was a little noisy but had a good vibe going. The bar in the back is sexy but you need to know it is there to enjoy it.
