My experience at Snack Taverna was wonderful - and unexpected from a little-known gem we stumbbled upon! The servers seemed like they were actually happy to be working there, they never had a frown on their faces! The Skordalia appetizer was amazing, and so was my entree, the Chicken Boureki dish. My boyfriend loved his lamb shank special, and we also had a surprisingly tasty bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. We will definitely go back again!

I recently had probably the worst meal in 50 years of eating out in New York City at Snack Taverna. And it cost 260 dollars for 6 people. The food was disgusting and believe me, I have had a lot of Greek food in my day. The portions were miniscule-to put a good face on it. The decor is slightly more enchanting than that in your junior high school cafeteria-but not much more. The 17 dollar salad consisted of chunks of mushy, overripe tomatoes with a square hunk of poor quality feta cheese dumped on top of it.

Reading the last review, it's hard for me to believe the diner was talking about the same restaurant my family and I recently had dinner at. Of course I can only speak for my experience which was just fantastic from start to finish. We were there on a recent Wednesday night and even though the room was fairly full, they seated us right away and there was a very relaxed and mellow vibe in the room, unusual for many Manhattan restaurants. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable, took her time with my wife who loves asking many detailed questions about the menu. We ordered a beautiful Greek salad for the table, everything was so fresh. Then we tried their sauteed calamari, lots of garlic which I like. For dinner, we shared the braised lamb shank, the bronzino fish and the roast chicken, all of which were knock-outs, I would happily order any of those plates again and leave with a smile on my face. Too full for dessert, we will be sure to return for their warm rice pudding and thick Greek coffee. Can't wait to go back!!

The setting of this restaurant is great. But the service is a little slow (only one waitress it seemed for all the tables) but still kind and helpful. The food was a little disappointing though. The apps and mezzs were tasty and nice, but the mains were much too salty and a little blah. Overall, it's a cute place and a pleasant place to spend a meal, but nothing spectacular.

I was excited to try Snack's menu as I've read so many good reviews and the menu itself is really interesting. My friend and I started with the eggplant appetizer with pita bread, and the pita was delicious and the appetizer was pretty good. I had the branzino, which was okay but way too salty, and it came with a very salty salad and potatoes. Also, it was supposed to be de-boned, but I had bones in mine and even swallowed one because I did not expect these bones to be in it. However, overall, the food was not really the bad thing about this place - that was the service. We were ignored for a very long time after we sat, so we finally had to ask for menus. Service took forever, they forgot things that I ordered, and the woman at the bar was clearly either inebriated or on drugs. If you're not picky about salt or service, this is a fine little place with a cute atmosphere. The cabernet from Greece I got by the glass was very good. Too bad they did not bring the other glass I ordered.

I have been here twice and had great meals both times (brunch and dinner.) Warm yet airy space, friendly staff, and the kind of menu you can't stop telling your friends about. The subtle cinnamon sweetness in the orzo made our table order a second plate, the zucchini fritters were light, crisp and full of flavor, and the 2 salads i tried were refreshing twists on old standards. This is my new Old Standby in the village.

I LOVE THIS PLACE. THE RESTAURANT HAS GREAT WARMTH. A FRIENDLY, (RELATIVELY) CASUAL PLACE, BUT STILL SOMEWHERE YOU CAN GO FOR A NICE NIGHT OUT. THE FOOD IS VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT. INTERESTING MODERN GREEK IS THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE FOOD. IT'S HARD TO FIND MANY RESTAURANTS IN NEW YORK WHICH ARE ABLE TO CREATE SUCH A GOOD, MODERN STYLE WITHOUT LOSING THE TRADITIONAL ROOTS & WITHOUT LAPSING INTO HIDIOUS "FUSION" CUISINE. SNACK TAVERNA CREATES INVENTIVE, EXCELLENT MODERN GREEK FOOD AND VERY REASONABLE PRICES TOO.

After having enjoyed SNACK we were excited to try SNACK Taverna. We made reservations for a Saturday night and confirmed them (as the SNACK staff requested) with a slight change in time. Imagine our surprise then when we arrived on time with out of town guests and were told we had no table reserved because we hadn't called yet a third time to reconfirm! Eating out shouldn't take this much effort. When the manager finally found us a table, he acted like he was doing us a big favor. He and the entire staff had attitudes, the portions were miniscule, the prices overinflated, the placed was cramped, and the food not all that great. And to top it all off the restaurant writes phony reviews of itself on this site, check out the glowing "mother of 3" review above. This place is a disgrace to real greeks.

Maybe the Greeks still have it in'em. Put a fork in Astoria.

We really enjoyed this truly Greek restaurant. Flavors came roaring off the plate served by a very well-trained, knowledgeable staff. This is fine food served at the top of its game. Fish and meats, distinctive dips and tastes and a reasonable tab made this a special destination. The staff is very helpful with the terrific greek wine list. Wines we didn't know existed became wines we wanted to buy for our own apartment. Romantic lighting, great greek family black and white photos, clean lines and big windows made this an ideal date spot.
