My favorite moderately-priced Japanese restaurant, Sobakoh's entrance leads you past a window of a chef cutting and pounding out their handmade noodles. The atmosphere is decorated in somewhat typical Japanese austerity and the service is good. But the food is where this place really shines--the fish collar was buttery and delicious. The tempura is battered just enough to maintain a satisfying crispiness without too much of a fried taste. The uni--sea urchin--is of shockingly high quality for such low prices with quite a bit of creaminess and barely a hint of that "oceany" taste. The soba itself has wonderful texture and still tastes of buckwheat. The soup stock is clean and keeps from overpowering the noodles. Don't come here if you're looking for strong tastes. Rather, Sobakoh excels in balancing a few, conventional flavors. I plan to return quite often.

Love this place! recently discovered on my street. the only problems are,: they are not open on mondays and they do not do delivery. I can eat there every day. My Favorites are: Kamonasu Soba (HOT), Daikon Salad, Miso Duck, Miso Sea Bass, and the Black Sesame Pudding (Dessert).
