When I think of Cuban food Son Cubano Immediately comes to mind. I have a group of friends who regularly enjoy the fare at this trendy Chelsea spot. The mojitos are the best in the city made with fresh ingredients and the ropa viejo is to die for. Made perfectly. The paella is also scrumptious. Yum Yum to Son Cubano

You expect much from Son Cubano and it does not fail to deliver in terms of lively Cuban atmosphere, great mahogany bar, superb live music and a sea of patrons swaying to the salsa rythms. Food is a great disappointment and seems to be an after-thought. Tasteless fare totally lacks the spice and zest that seems to be pouring out of just about everything else in this establishment. The menu promises so much yet the blandness is overpowering. Starter ribs were covered in a thick brown tasteless glop and tasted stale and re-heated. The octopuss starter was perfectly textured but tasted of - well nothing really. Steak main was just too ripe and this made it whiffy and unappetizing. The seared tuna was perfectly done, texture-perfect but seated on a dry plantain biscuit similarly daubed with a tasteless glop I assumed to be tomato in base. It was red anyhow. Service excellent, beer super chilled. Its a super, lively, charming venue ... just eat before you go !
